**New rule for 2025 **
Arrangements and exhibits in all classes are to be completed without floral foam or bio-floral foam. Alternative suggestions are chicken wire, kenzans (pin holders), pebbles, sand, gravel, clay, marbles, twigs, moss or even fruit.

An exhibit is composed of natural plant material with or without accessories, contained within a space as specified in a show schedule. Exhibits may be arranged at home or in the marquee. To be judged according to NAFAS Competitions Manual - current edition.

Classes 455 - 457 are open to newcomers and exhibitors who have not been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd at the Melplash Show Floral Art section (excluding Children's Classes).

A Best in Show certificate will be awarded to the best exhibit in the Floral Art classes.

Exhibits must be staged between 2.30pm and 8.30pm on Wednesday 20th August 2025. There will be strictly no entry to the Floral Art marquee after 8.30pm or before judging on show day.

Description:

Bara Brith
Ingredients:
175g currants
175g sultanas
225g light muscovado sugar
300ml strong hot tea
275g self-raising flour
1 large egg, beaten
Cake Tin: 900g (2lb) loaf tin

Method: Measure the fruit and sugar into a bowl, pour in the hot tea, cover and leave overnight.
Preheat oven to 150°C / Fan 130°C / Gas 2. Grease the tin then line the base with non-stick baking parchment. Sift the flour and egg into the fruit mixture, mix thoroughly then turn into the prepared tin and level the surface.
Bake for about 1 ½ hours or until well risen and firm to the touch. A skewer inserted into the centre should come out clean. Leave to cool in the tin for 10 minutes then turn out, peel off the parchment and finish cooling on a wire rack.

Description:

Double Orange Cake
Ingredients:
275g butter, softened
175g caster sugar
3 large eggs, beaten
175g self-raising flour
¾ level teaspoon baking powder
finely grated zest and juice of 1 large orange

To Finish:
2 tablespoons apricot jam
115g icing sugar
finely grated zest and juice of ½ orange

Method: Preheat oven to 180°C / Fan 160°C /Gas 4. Grease a 20cm (8in) deep round cake tin then line the base with non-stick baking paper. Measure all the cake ingredients into a large bowl and beat until thoroughly blended. Turn into the prepared tin and level the surface. Bake in the preheated oven for about 35 minutes, until well risen and springy to the touch. Leave to cool in the tin for a few minutes and then turn out. Peel off the baking paper and finish cooling on wire rack. Measure the apricot jam into a small pan and gently warm through. Brush the jam over the top of the cake. Sift the icing sugar into a bowl and mix in the orange juice to a coating consistency. Pour over the top of the cake and gently spread out with a small palette knife. Leave to set then decorate with the pared orange zest.

Handicrafts

Exhibits of Handicraft must not have been entered in the Melplash Show before and must not be framed or mounted except in Classes 548, 549 and 550 which may be exhibited in a frame. All pictures MUST have rings or strings for hanging. The size in centimetres MUST BE given on entry forms so that the appropriate space can be allocated for exhibitors.
