Cookery Championship

Exhibits will be judged to agreed national standards for skill, technique and finish as well as for presentation. No items of meat, fish or fresh cream or of any liquids which may spill, may be included in the classes in Division 5. All cookery entries in classes 501 and 503 to 512 must be displayed on non-breakable plates or boards and covered with clingwrap or a non-breakable, see-through cake dome.

Cookery Championship, STAR BAKER
Do you have the inspiration and skill to be a Star Baker? Show a display of five items of baking to 'wow' the judges! The items to be displayed within a space 60cm x 65cm with no height restriction. Please note the space available and cook appropriately. Each item to be judged must be labelled. Accessories and display materials should be used to enhance the display. Each item will be marked separately out of ten points and up to ten points will be awarded for presentation and interpretation of the wording of the class.
The LAKELAND TROPHY will be awarded to the winner of this class.

Description:

A display of three different types of bread. This must be a wholemeal loaf, 4 x chelsea buns and a cottage loaf, all displayed in a wicker basket. Accessories should be used to make an attractive display. Please cover loosely with clingwrap, or similar, for hygiene reasons.

Description:

Fruit cake using specified recipe shown below.
125g margarine 175g light brown sugar
175g currants 175g sultanas
50g candied peel 225ml water
1 level teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 1 heaped teaspoon of mixed spice
2 beaten eggs 125g plain flour
125g self raising flour Pinch of salt
20cm round tin or 18cm square tin greased and lined.
Oven 180°C, 160°C fan or gas mark 4

1. Place margarine, sugar, dried fruits, water, bicarb and mixed spice into a pan.
2. Bring to a boil then simmer for 1 minute before pouring into a large bowl and leaving to cool slightly.
3. Add beaten eggs, sieved plain and self raising flours and salt to the cooled mixture, mix well and pour into the tin.
4. Bake for approximately 1hour 15 minutes, checking after 1 hour.

Preserves Championship

Exhibits will be judged to agreed national standards for skill, technique and finish as well as for presentation. All jams, jellies and marmalades to be sealed with a NEW plain plastic lined twist top without a wax disc OR a clear cellophane cover with a wax disc. Curds must be sealed with a wax disc and a clear cellophane cover. Pickles and chutneys should be at least two months old and should be covered with a NEW plain plastic lined twist top. All preserves must be in plain, unmarked jars and have plain white labels showing contents and exact date of making.
