Cookery Championship, STAR BAKER
Do you have the inspiration and skill to be a Star Baker? Show a display of five items of baking to 'wow' the judges! The items to be displayed within a space 60cm x 65cm with no height restriction. Please note the space available and cook appropriately. Each item to be judged must be labelled. Accessories and display materials should be used to enhance the display. Each item will be marked separately out of ten points and up to ten points will be awarded for presentation and interpretation of the wording of the class.
The LAKELAND TROPHY will be awarded to the winner of this class.
2022 winner: Christine Pitman.

A display of three different types of bread. This must be a wholemeal loaf, 4 x chelsea buns and a cottage loaf, all displayed in a wicker basket. Accessories should be used to make an attractive display. Please cover loosely with clingwrap, or similar, for hygiene reasons.

LET’S CELEBRATE
A 20cm (8") chocolate cake iced and decorated on the top only. The cake will be judged 50/50 on the cake and decoration.

A Victoria Sponge sandwich using 3 hens eggs, raspberry jam filling and caster sugar dusting, and using a sponge tin no larger than 8in or 20cm in diameter.

Fruit cake using specified recipe shown below.
125g margarine 175g light brown sugar
175g currants 175g sultanas
50g candied peel 225ml water
1 level teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 1 heaped teaspoon of mixed spice
2 beaten eggs 125g plain flour
125g self raising flour Pinch of salt
20cm round tin or 18cm square tin greased and lined.
Oven 180°C, 160°C fan or gas mark 4

1. Place margarine, sugar, dried fruits, water, bicarb and mixed spice into a pan.
2. Bring to a boil then simmer for 1 minute before pouring into a large bowl and leaving to cool slightly.
3. Add beaten eggs, sieved plain and self raising flours and salt to the cooled mixture, mix well and pour into the tin.
4. Bake for approximately 1hour 15 minutes, checking after 1 hour.

Six iced and decorated biscuits in the theme of Summer Time. Entrants to display a copy of the recipe and ingredients used along with the entry.

FOR NOVICES ONLY: Five chocolate brownies. Open to individuals who have not won a first prize in a cookery class previously at this show.

Preserves Championship, NEW HOME GIFT
Three jars of preserves displayed as a gift for a new home. 1 jam, 1 marmalade and 1 chutney. These items to be displayed within a space 60cm x 60cm. Each preserve must be suitably labelled. Each item will be marked separately out of ten points and up to ten points may be awarded for presentation and interpretation of the wording of the class.
The MOUNTFIELD FRUIT FARM CUP will be awarded to the winner of this class. 2022 winner: Annie Nunn

A jar of lemon marmalade

Any type of jelly.

Lemon curd using 150ml freshly squeezed lemon juice, 110g unsalted butter, 350g granulated sugar and 150ml beaten fresh egg.

Craft Championship
This is an opportunity to show all your ability in original textile and non-textile art and craft skills together. Display five items of work demonstrating your skill in at least three different disciplines, all to be the work of the same exhibitor, and to be displayed in a table top space 135cm x 65cm with no height restriction.
Accessories may be used to enhance the display, but the items to be judged must be listed or individually titled. Each item of work will be marked separately out of ten points and up to ten points may be awarded for presentation of the whole exhibit.
The SECRETARY'S CUP will be awarded to the winner of this class. 2022 winner: Suzy Denner.

An item of paper art. Maximum size 30cm in any dimension. Will be displayed on a flat table, please supply your own stand if required.

A hand made retirement card, of an original design. To be created by the exhibitor from base materials and using no commercially made components. To be displayed in a transparent cover, which must be removable for judging, on a stand supplied by the exhibitor. Please describe the materials and techniques used on a separate card - to be displayed with the entry.

A hand made card to celebrate Mothers’ Day in which commercially generated components may be used. To be displayed in a transparent cover, which must be removable for judging, on a stand supplied by the exhibitor. Kits may be used in this class.

A hand made special birthday card using sewing techniques. To be displayed in a transparent cover, which must be removable for judging, on a stand supplied by the exhibitor. Kits may be used in this class.

An item of decopatch or decopage. Maximum size 30cm in any dimension. Will be displayed on a flat table, please supply your own stand if required.

The Coronation.
A display, made by at least two members of a WI, on the theme of The Coronation. The display should contain two items of baking, one jar of preserves and two craft items to interpret the title. It will be displayed in a table top space 135cm x 65cm with no height restriction. Accessories may be used to enhance the display and interpretation. Please list, or individually label, the items to be judged. Each individual item will be judged out of ten points and up to only ten points may be awarded for display and interpretation.
