The sole criterion for this class is the elegance of the picture presented by horse and rider. Attention may be paid to the rider’s personal appearance, but detailed inspection of rider or tack is not required. Fancy dress or period costume is not permitted. Competitors are required to walk, trot and canter. No individual show is required, but the Judge may ask groups of 3 or 4 riders to give short displays. A Special rosette will be awarded to the highest placed Adult Member and Junior Member of the SSA carrying their current Championship Points Cards.

SSA Rosettes and Qualifying Points shall be awarded to Adults & Juniors as 2 sections: the highest placed Adult & Junior Members will receive SSA rosettes to 3rd place, and Qualifying Points down each line. The highest placed Member under 14 on 1st January of the current year will receive a rosette.

Open to SSA Adult Members and Non-members, aged 18 and over on January 1st of the current year, riding side saddle, on horses exceeding 148cm (14.2hh). To be judged 25% conformation and action, 25% manners and way of going, 25% rider, and 25% turnout of horse & rider. Judges may request a short show, but horses will not be stripped. Traditional habits must be worn. Fancy Dress and Period Costumes NOT permitted. Judges must use the mark sheet provided.

The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Supreme Small Hack/Riding Horse Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Rising Star Hack/Riding Horse final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. Associate Rising Star Qualification Cards will be awarded in the ring.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over. Hacks to exceed 154cm but not exceeding
160cm. Riding Horses to exceed 158cm. Rider to be 15yrs or over. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Large Hack/Riding Horse Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Rising Star Hack/Riding Horse final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. Associate Rising Star Qualification Cards will be awarded in the ring.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 148cm. Open to thoroughbred
horses or Arab horses retired from race training. Rider to be 15yrs or over. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Racehorse to Show Horse Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. This class is open to all competitors. In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Open Racehorse to Show Horse final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. The two highest placed unqualified horses ridden by Rising Star-eligible competitors will qualify for the Associate Rising Star Racehorse to Show Horse final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. Associate Open Qualification Cards will be awarded in the ring.

types, rider to be aged 15- 25 years (Riders will be eligible from the date of their 15th birthday. Riders aged 25 yrs on 1st January 2026 will be eligible for this class). This is a flat class to be judged solely on performance, there will be no conformation marks awarded, and exhibits will not be stripped. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Open Style & Performance Young Rider Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Open Style & Performance final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. Associate Open Qualification Cards will be awarded in the ring.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 148cm. Open to ALL
types, rider to be aged over 25 years on 1st January 2026. This is a flat class to be judged solely on performance, there will be no conformation marks awarded, and exhibits will not be stripped. The highest unqualified horse placed in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Open Style & Performance Over 25 Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Open Style & Performance final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. Associate Open Qualification Cards will be awarded in the ring.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, (Lightweight
exceeding 158cms, Small Hunter exceeding 148cms, but not exceeding 158cms). Capable of carrying up to 79.5kgs (12 stone 7lbs). Rider to be 15yrs or over. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Small/Lightweight Hunter Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. old or over, exceeding 158cms. Capable of carrying over 89kgs (14 stone). Rider to be 15yrs or over. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Middleweight/Heavyweight Hunter Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Rising Star Hunter final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. Associate Rising Star Qualification Cards will be awarded in the ring.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, exceeding 148cms. Rider to be 15yrs or over. To be shown hogged. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Cob Supreme Final at the LIHS in December.

Stallions, Mares or Geldings (competing stallions must have a red, white and blue ribbon displayed in their tail), four years old or over, exceeding 148cm (14.2hh approx.), not having won three affiliated Novice working classes or three affiliated Open working classes before 1st January in the current year OR, not having been placed 1-9 in ANY WORKING HUNTER CLASS at Royal International Horse Show or Horse of the Year Show before 1st January in the current year. Horses that have more than 5 BE points or 200 BS points, at home or equivalent abroad before 1st January in the current year are not eligible to compete in novice working classes. Height of jumps will not exceed 1.00m (3ft 3 inches.) Horses entered in these classes must be registered (passported or overstamped) with SHB(GB) and owners and riders must be members of SHB(GB) or compete on Day Ticket.

This class is intended as “step-up” class, and it is hoped that competitors will enter into the spirit of this. An award will be made to highest placed Novice and the highest placed Amateur in this class. Horses entered in these classes must be registered (passported or overstamped) with SHB(GB) and owners and riders must be members of SHB(GB) or compete on Day Ticket

A mare, gelding or stallion (competing stallions must have a red, white, and blue ribbon displayed in their tail) four years old and over exceeding 148cm (14.2hh approx.). This class to be judged in accordance with the rules for Working Hunter Competitions as laid down by SHB(GB). To be judged in accordance with the rules herein set out. Grade A Showjumpers and Advanced Event horses are not eligible to compete in these Classes. Any horse which has qualified as a Grade A Show Jumper or Advanced Event Horse as of 1st January in the current year is not eligible to compete in Working Hunter classes. This class is a qualifying class for the Royal International Horse Show.

In Lead Rein WSP classes the Judges will be looking for a pony suitable for a child to begin their future in Working Sports Pony classes. Ponies will be shown unplaited and to their breed standard.

The leader must be 16 years old or over and may only lead one pony in a class. The rein MUST go directly from the bit to the rider's hand with no extra aid or attachment to or on the saddle. The reins must be a normal length and not knotted together or stitched together at a shorter length. Handles on saddles are permitted but the reins MUST NOT be attached to the handle or to the saddle. Cantering is not allowed. The attendant MUST affix the lead rein to the NOSEBAND ON WHICH IT MUST REMAIN WHILE THE PONY IS IN THE RING. The winner is eligible for the Supreme Mini Pony.

No cantering is allowed except for individual performances. Ponies must leave the ring at the walk or trot. The winner is eligible for the Supreme Mini Pony.
