The Best Farmed Farm competition is split for judging into small, medium and large farm categories based on acreage of entries received. TOTAL ACREAGE MUST BE STATED AT TIME OF ENTRY.
The winners of classes 1a - 1d will automatically go forward for the award for the Champion Farm.

Countryside Conservation Competition
A farm which, in the opinion of the judges, has done most to encourage conservation alongside a successful commercial activity. Conservation will be taken to include flora and fauna but consideration will also be given to landscape and historical interests. APPROX. ACREAGE OF FARM MUST BE STATED WITH ENTRY.

Grass Crops
As a guide to entrants and judge’s, classes will be judged on the following factors:
• Quality of sward (as per proportion of useful species)
• Density of sward (tillering and leafiness)
• Tidiness of field (fencing and water etc.) if appropriate
Details of seeding should be available. The whole field will be judged unless, in larger fields, a patch is clearly indicated and staked which must not be less than 50% of the field, or a minimum of 8 acres, whichever is the greater. Whole fields to be not less than FIVE acres. Set-aside land is not eligible
THE WILLIAMS AND HAWKINS CUP will be awarded to the Champion of Classes 7, 8 and 9: Grass Crops

Crops
All crops will be judged for the Best Crop according to the land on which it is grown. The whole field will be judged and must be at least Five acres unless otherwise stated.
SECTOR COMPETITIONS
For the Corn Crops Classes, where necessary, the area will be divided into sectors or groups of sectors and 1st - 3rd prize cards awarded in each sector/group. The first placed crops in each sector will then be judged for the Champion Crops. If in the opinion of the sector judges, the crop does not meet the required standard no prizes or points will be awarded. Prize money is only payable to Champion Crop winners.
NOTE: Crops should be entered in the Milling or Feed Winter or Spring Classes according to the variety as recognised by the HGCA.

Weeds - max. 10
Disease - max. 10
Purity - max. 10

Field Work
The Skilled Operator Award will be awarded to the operator who gains the most points in the Drilling, Ploughing and Hedge Trimming competitions with bonus points for entering the Invention/Adaption competition.
In classes 18a, 18b, 19 and 34b points will be awarded as follows:
1st 4points, 2nd 3 points, 3rd 2 points, 4th 1 point.
A bonus point will be awarded for every entry into class 35 - Best Invention/Adaption

Fodder Event
Samples for classes 28-32; Malting Barley, In-store Wheat and Silage/Hay/Straw will be required to be taken to the Forage Event at a date to be confirmed in December at Guiting Manor Farms Ltd. Further details will be sent out to exhibitors before the event. Exhibitors will be required to bring samples of the produce in each class, of at least one cubic foot in volume, in a bag or container by 11.00am for judging.
Exhibitors will retire for a (self-financed) lunch whilst judging takes place. The results will be published, and prizes given after lunch. Exhibitors MUST remove their exhibits immediately after lunch.

Invention/Adaption Competition
For the best farm invention/adaption designed and/or constructed by any members or their staff. This includes hand tools, machinery and adaptations to fixed equipment and machinery, large or small. Entries must relate to the working within the farming environment. Previous winning inventions/designs cannot be re-entered the following year. This class is also open to Young Farmers Clubs and Agricultural Farm Machinery dealerships within the Society area. Each entry to this class will receive a bonus point for the Skilled Operators Award.

Diversification Award
This class is open to any rural business within the Society’s Restricted Area (as indicated at the rear of the Schedule)
which has completed a diversification project in the past 5 years.
• The competition is restricted to rural businesses residing within the boundaries of the Society’s restricted area.
• The competition is open to both members and non-members.
• The alternative land enterprise must be run from buildings or land on their farm.
• Entries will be judged on their creative, commercial, social and practical merits.
