The first competitor of each team (the horse) is only required to cross the starting line for his/her section of the course. However, the last competitor (the pony) of each team is required to cross both the starting line and the finishing line for his/her section of the course.
The team time is the time from the pony competitor crossing the starting line for it’s part of the course to the pony competitor crossing the finishing line, minus interrupted time plus time penalties.
