Sweet joy! The flowers have come!

I love the sound of the birds

And even when its rainy,

A piece of craft of your choice using any medium such as metal, wood, clay, sculpture, candles, glassware etc.

For a celebration of your choice, to be judged on decoration only. Made and decorated in edible medium. Own recipe, space allowed: 38cm.

The Show recommends bringing a box for the cake to go in overnight, a cardboard box works well - please provide the box to the Stewards who will place the box over the cake overnight.

Ingredients:
300ml hot strong tea
350g - 400g mixed dried fruit
1 large egg
1 tsp mixed spice
1 - 2 tablespoons marmalade
200g brown sugar (muscovado or dark brown)
250g self raising flour

Method:
Soak fruit in the tea overnight. Mix in all other ingredients. Bake in well lined and greased tin 900g for 1 1/2 hours or until firm to the touch. Bake at 160 in fan, 180 or Gas Mark 4. Allow to cool in the tin before transferring to wire rack. Tastes best if kept in an airtight tin after 2 days and served with butter.

Made with three eggs, jam filled and dusted with caster sugar.

Use this recipe:

170g (6oz) butter
170g (6oz) caster sugar
Grated rind of orange
4 standard eggs
200g (7oz) plain flour
170g (6oz) currants
170g (6oz) sultanas
170g (6oz) raisins
55g (2oz) glace cherries, washed and halved
85g (3oz) mixed chopped peel
Half teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon mixed spice

Decoration: 55g (2oz) whole blanched almonds

Method: Mix by the creaming method. Place mixture in a greased and lined cake tin approximately 18cm, arrange the whole almonds in circles around the top. Bake in the middle of a slow oven at 150c (300F, 120c fan, Gas Mark 2). Cook for 1 1/2 to 2 hours until the cake is firm ad springy to the touch. Allow to cool in the tin. Dundee Cake keeps well in an airtight tin and tastes better if kept a few days before cutting.

Using the following recipe:

Ingredients:
115g (4oz) butter
115g (4oz) caster sugar
3 eggs
170g (6oz) glace cherries
200g (7oz) self-raising flour
Pinch of salt
30g (1oz)ground almonds

Method: Grease and line an approximately 15cm round cake tin. Quarter the cherries and toss in a little of the weighed flour. Sieve remainder of the flour with the salt and add the ground almonds. Cream the butter and sugar, whisk the eggs and beat in a little at a time. Fold in the flour and the cherries. Place the mixture into a tin and smooth. Bake at 180C (350F/fan 160C/ Gas Mark 4) for approx. 45 minutes or until an inserted skewer comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the tin for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Made with two eggs, buttercream filled and dusted with caster sugar.

Own recipe - including a vegetable form the 'veg patch' (any out of carrot, courgette, beetroot, parsnip etc. but please state which) Approx. 6in/15cms round. No filling. Can include a cream cheese topping. To be displayed on a board.

Using the following recipe:

Ingredients:
225g (8oz) unsalted butter
225g (8oz) caster sugar
225g (8oz) self-raising flour
4 large eggs
Zest of one lemon
For the drizzle:
Juice of 1 1/2 lemons
85g (3oz) castor sugar

Method: Heat oven to 180C (160C fan, gas mark 4). Grease and line a 2lb loaf tin. Cream the butter and sugar until pale and creamy. Add eggs one at a time, then the flour and lemon zest. Spoon mixture into the tin and level the top. Bake for 45 - 50 minutes until a skewer inserted into the middle comes out clean. To make the drizzle: While the cake is cooling in the tin, mix together the lemon juice and castor sugar. Prick the top of the warm cake with a skewer or fork and gently pour over the top - the juice should sink in and the sugar will form a crispy top. Leave in the tin until cool. Keeps well in an airtight tin for 4 days and freezes well.

Ingredients:
230g (8oz) plain flour
3tsp ground ginger
1tsp bicarbonate of soda
140ml milk
115g (4oz) butter
115g (4oz) soft brown sugar
7tbsp golden syrup
1 egg

Method: Sift these ingredients together in a mixing bowl. Put butter, sugar and syrup into a saucepan, melt over a low heat, stirring continuously. Pour onto dry ingredients. Beat well, add beaten egg, beat together until smooth. Pour into an approximately 18cm greased and lined square tin. Bake in the middle of a slow oven at 150°C (300°F) Gas Mark 2 for two hours. Leave to cool, turn out onto wire rack.
