HEAVY HORSES

All Clydesdales which are shod must be within the guidelines of the Clydesdale Horse Society.
The Clydesdale Horse Society Shield.
A Shield (which will be supplied and engraved by The Clydesdale Horse Society) will be awarded to the best yearling or two-year-old colt or filly, registered or eligible for registration with the Society, not having won a Shield before in its lifetime. The exhibitor must be a current member of The Clydesdale Horse Society.
Please note (and new for 2026) that any horse with a clipped tail, subject to transitional arrangements if the tail was clipped in 2025, cannot win the Clydesdale Horse Society Shield.
This rule applies at the Clydesdale Horse Society Winter Fair in 2026 and for 2026
Affiliated Shows which award the Clydesdale Horse Society Shield for the best Yearling
and Two-Year-Old Colt or Filly presented at that show.
Young Handlers Class An engraved medal is presented by The Clydesdale Horse Society to the best young handler aged 12 to 16 on the day of the show who has not already qualified. That person will also receive a Young Handler qualifier rosette on the day of the show.
The capabilities of the handler are to be assessed, not the animal being led.
Qualifiers from any show held prior to 30th April in any year will qualify for the Young Handler final at the Royal Highland Show in the year of that show. Qualifier after 30th April in any year will qualify for Young Handler Final at the following year’s Royal Highland Show.
A merit rosette will be given to all entrants in the class. The James Bennett Fund generously sponsors the Young Handler Scheme and The Young Handler Final.
The Cumberland Agricultural Society Heavy Horse Championship will be judged at the end of the section in the Main Ring. A Champion and Reserve will be judged from the 1st and 2nd prize winners in each class. The section Champion must go forward to the Parade of Champions.
SPECIAL PRIZES
CHALLENGE CUP presented in memory of the late Mr J Armstrong is awarded to the best animal in the Clydesdale Horse Classes age to be considered.
THE TARRABY CUP presented by the late Mr J A Armstrong (formerly by Blamire Memorial Committee) is awarded to the best female in the Clydesdale Horse Section.
THE GEORGE HODGSON MEMORIAL CUP presented by Mrs Milne is awarded to the best male in the Clydesdale classes.

All those entering and/or participating in RoR classes agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force.
Competitors/grooms must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap.

To take part in this class, horses must NOT have won: a ridden open class under any affiliated showing society including (inc SEIB/HOYS, BSHA, SHB(GB) BSPS, BSPA, Tattersalls RoR Open /Amateur Ridden Show Series Qualifier, TARRA Ridden, or any other open class except Tattersalls RoR Challenge Show Series, other Working Hunter type classes or RoR In Hand classes. Unaffiliated Show wins are not considered.
Horses may remain in the Tattersalls RoR Novice Ridden Show Series (Formerly RoR Jockey Club Novice Show Series) classes until they have won three Tattersalls RoR Novice Show Series Qualifiers. They are de-noviced on their third novice win or at midnight on the day they win an open class, whichever happens first. They are still eligible to compete in the Tattersalls RoR Novice Final at The Jockey Club RoR National Championships.
Tattersalls RoR Scottish Open Show Series Qualifier 2027

Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1st of January 2026.
Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, pelham or simple double bridle with a plain cavesson noseband. Horses should be plaited.
All entries MUST have current RoR competition registration and have RACED in GB. There will be a prize for the highest placed veteran 15 years or over. The class will run under the rules of RoR. Horses to be ridden by the judge. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force’

HCR Classes 52 & 54 – entrants do not need to be registered with HCR to compete
Horse & Country Racing (HCR) series is open to Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds who have raced, trained or been bred to race. Racing injuries will be ignored providing the horse is sound. Riders must be 14 years plus, ridden horses must be 4 years plus and veterans are 12 years plus. Judges will not ride and you will not be asked to gallop as a ride but maybe asked to gallop in your individual show.

SHETLAND PONIES

This show is affiliated to SPSBS, NPS & SSPC for Shetland pony classes. Please note the following information.
Classes must be confined to SPS-BS registered ponies. Ponies must be named on the entry form and in the catalogue if one is produced. Society rosettes must only be given to ponies registered with the Society or to foals eligible for registration.
Three-year-old fillies with foals at foot may not be shown. All foals must be a minimum of three weeks old on the day of the Show.
To enter a stallion in ANY class (in-hand or performance) at an affiliated show, entire males aged 4 years old and over must have an “S” number and have been successfully through either the SPS-BS Stallion assessment prior to 2006 or the current SPS-BS Voluntary Veterinary Examination. Ridden stallions MUST display a stallion bridle badge. In hand colts/stallions of two years old or over must be shown bitted and are advised to display a colt or stallion bridle badge, these are available to purchase from the SPS-BS.
There must be no colts or stallions in Young Handlers classes. Young Handlers must be a minimum of 3 years of age on the day of the show. Children under 14 years old may not show colts (excluding foals) or Stallions in In-hand classes.
Children aged under 12 years old on the day of their class may not show a stallion in ridden classes. In the interests of safety, hard hats conforming to current British Safety standards must be worn, correctly secured, by all handlers aged 14 years or under in In-hand classes. For Health & Safety purposes judges and exhibitors must remain standing whilst in the ring when showing ponies. KNEELING IS NOT PERMITTED. Hard hats conforming to current British Safety standards must be
NPS Classes 67 - 76 (excluding foals) are qualifiers for the NPS/Absorbine M&M In Hand Championship.
The Champion Shetland pony may go forward to the NPS/Blackertor & Sharptor Stud Mountain and Moorland In Hand Silver Medal Championship to be judged in the Native Pony provided the Shetland Championship has completed in time.
Shetland Pony Stud Book Society Rosettes for Champion and Reserve, Junior Champion and Reserve, Best Foal, Best Gelding in both Standard and Miniature sections.
The Cumberland Agricultural Society Shetland Pony Championship will be judged at the end of this section. NATIVE PONIES IN HAND

National Pony Society (NPS) – Affiliation No S5.121
This show is affiliated to the NPS – entrants do not need to be members of the NPS to compete. The following classes are affiliated to NPS (Part bred Arab) (Shetland Ponies), (Fell Ponies), (IH and Ridden M & M’s), and (Show Ponies and Show Hunter Ponies).
NPS Qualifying Rounds: These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. Ponies must be registered in any of the British Riding Pony studbook sections or the Ridden Register; the GSB; the AHSB; the AASB, or registered in the main body of their respective M&M Stud Book. Part breds are not eligible unless overstamped into one of the British Riding Pony studbook sections. or the Ridden Register. Qualifying rounds for most NPS competitions are open to ponies owned by NPS members and non members but only ponies owned by adult NPS Qualifying or Life members are eligible to qualify for the final of the competition at the NPS Summer Championship Show at Malvern from 4th – 6th August 2026. The highest placed pony, if owned by an NPS member, in each class will qualify for the final. Qualification may pass down to third place if the first and second ponies are already qualified.
NPS/WTJ Insurance Brokers Ltd Home Produced Ridden Championship - Riders of Home Produced ponies (see definition in the NPS Rules Book) can wear a white arm band in classes where this is indicated. These ponies, if owned by NPS members, are then eligible to qualify for the final at the NPS Summer Championship Show. The Owner’s Membership cards MUST be produced in the ring when requested or the qualification will be forfeit.
NPS Silver Medal Rosette Championships: These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. NPS Silver Medal Rosettes are only awarded when the owner of the champion pony is a Qualifying or Life member of the NPS. A valid membership card must be in the rider’s/handler’s possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the judge or the steward. If the owner of the Champion pony is not a member, or the owner’s membership card is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the Reserve Champion provided they have the required membership card. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette, but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony, provided the owner of that pony is a member of the NPS. The Silver Medal Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships.

Champion only from Native Pony classes (excluding foals) 81-85, Fell Pony classes 78–83 & Shetland Pony classes 63-72 provided the Fell & Shetland sections have completed in time. NATIVE PONIES RIDDEN

National Pony Society (NPS) – Affiliation No S5.121
This show is affiliated to the NPS – entrants do not need to be members of the NPS to compete. The following classes are affiliated to NPS (Part bred Arab) (Shetland Ponies), (Fell Ponies), (IH and Ridden M & M’s), and (Show Ponies and Show Hunter Ponies).
NPS Qualifying Rounds: These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. Ponies must be registered in any of the British Riding Pony studbook sections or the Ridden Register; the GSB; the AHSB; the AASB, or registered in the main body of their respective M&M Stud Book. Part breds are not eligible unless overstamped into one of the British Riding Pony studbook sections. or the Ridden Register. Qualifying rounds for most NPS competitions are open to ponies owned by NPS members and non members but only ponies owned by adult NPS Qualifying or Life members are eligible to qualify for the final of the competition at the NPS Summer Championship Show at Malvern from 4th – 6th August 2026. The highest placed pony, if owned by an NPS member, in each class will qualify for the final. Qualification may pass down to third place if the first and second ponies are already qualified.
NPS/WTJ Insurance Brokers Ltd Home Produced Ridden Championship - Riders of Home Produced ponies (see definition in the NPS Rules Book) can wear a white arm band in classes where this is indicated. These ponies, if owned by NPS members, are then eligible to qualify for the final at the NPS Summer Championship Show. The Owner’s Membership cards MUST be produced in the ring when requested or the qualification will be forfeit.
NPS Silver Medal Rosette Championships: These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. NPS Silver Medal Rosettes are only awarded when the owner of the champion pony is a Qualifying or Life member of the NPS. A valid membership card must be in the rider’s/handler’s possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the judge or the steward. If the owner of the Champion pony is not a member, or the owner’s membership card is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the Reserve Champion provided they have the required membership card. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette, but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony, provided the owner of that pony is a member of the NPS. The Silver Medal Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships.

The NPS/NIPNA DALES PONY STUD M&M Ridden Silver Medal Rosette Championship
A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the National Pony Society for the best registered pony owned by an NPS Qualifying or Life member in the M&M Ridden section (excluding Leading Rein, First Ridden & WHP). Membership cards must be presented in the ring to receive the medal and/or the qualification.
A pony can only attend one M&M Ridden Silver Medal Rosette Championship final in a season either at NPS Summer Championships at Malvern or at NPS Scotland Championships at Scone Palace. A pony may only take the qualification for the Silver Medal Final once in a season.
Classes 90 - 93 are eligible for the NPS/WTJ Insurance Brokers Ltd Home Produced Ridden Championship - Riders of Home Produced ponies (see definition in the NPS Rules Book) can wear a white arm band in classes where this is indicated. These ponies are then eligible to qualify for the final at the NPS Summer Championship Show.

The Cumberland Agricultural Society Ridden Native Pony Championship will be judged at the end of this section. A Champion and Reserve Champion will be judged from the 1st & 2nd placed competitors. Judging will commence immediately following the end of the final class. The Section Champion is eligible to compete in the Supreme Horse Championship which will be judged at the conclusion of the ridden classes

DONKEYS

This section will be run under Donkey Breed Society Rules.
The Donkey Breed Society offers Special Rosettes to the Best Local Donkey (to a DBS member within a 25 mile radius of the show ground) Best Gelding, Best Foal, Best Yearling, Best 2 year old, young handler, also Best Veteran to be awarded in class 94.
The In Hand Champion Donkey (1st & 2nd classes of 95 to 97) at this show automatically qualifies for the relevant Championship at The Donkey Breed Society Annual Championship Show, to be held August 2026, provided it is owned by a fully paid up member of the DBS. A donkey may win more than one championship at shows but will qualify only once for the DBS Championship Show. Where the in hand Champion donkey has previously qualified, the Reserve Champion donkey will be deemed the qualifier. If the Reserve Champion has also previously qualified, the judge will select another donkey from the In hand Championship line up as the qualifier for the DBS Annual Supreme Championship Show.
The Cumberland Agricultural Society Donkey Championship will be judged at the end of this section. A Champion and Reserve will be judged from the 1st & 2nd placed competitors from each class. Judging will commence immediately following the end of the final class. COLOURED HORSES

This show is affiliated to The Coloured Horse & Pony Society (UK). Affiliation No 26-101
Both owner and the rider/exhibitor need not be a member of CHAPS (UK) nor must the horse or pony be registered with CHAPS (UK) to compete. However in order to Qualify both Owner and Rider/Exhibitor need to be a current showing member and present their valid Qualifier card IN THE RING for signing by the judge. Members to apply in writing to CHAPS (UK) for appropriate qualifier card. The CHAPS (UK) Championship Show will be held on 20th to 22nd August 2026. The following classes are CHAPS (UK) Qualifiers (Classes). (CHAPS registered animals in classes, Sport Horse class and in the Veteran section classes may also qualify.

TGCA Breed classes are qualifiers for the Best of Breed Finals at the Traditional Gypsy Cob Association's (TGCA) National Breed
Championship Show “TOYS”. Classes are open to all traditional gypsy cobs.
Part Bred classes, are open to all part bred traditional gypsy cobs and are qualifiers for the part bred finals at “TOYS”. The exhibit must have one parent that is pure bred traditional gypsy cob.
Stallions – All stallions (pure or part bred, four years and over) in order to enter any TGCA affiliated class MUST be TGCA registered, have passed TGCA stallion evaluations and their TGCA stallion disc displayed on their bridle. Stallions and colts over the age of two, MUST be shown in a stallion bridle with a metal bit and chain lead as per the current TGCA rulebook.
Current TGCA members must present their Membership card and Qualification card to the judge in the ring for signature. Non-members MUST receive a qualification card from the judge and have 21 days to join the TGCA and register their horse to validate the qualification. First, second and third placed horses/ponies not already qualified in eligible classes will qualify for the Champion of Britain Title classes to be held at Onley Equestrian Centre, Rugby, Warwickshire on Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th September 2026. If a horse/pony has already qualified, cards may be handed down to 6th place at judge’s discretion. Each qualified horse/pony will receive a qualification card in the ring which will enable the owner to enter the Championship Show, provided the owner and rider/handler are, or become registered with the Concours d’ Elegance Society within 21 days of the qualifying show. VETERAN HORSES

Open to members and non-members. All competitors and grooms must adhere to VHS Rules in all circumstances. Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification. Those wishing to join or renew the Society will need to apply for this before 1st July each year or a late penalty fee of £15 will be charged.
Veteran Horse Society (VHS)
An Area qualifier is the first of the three rounds in the Veteran Horse Society showing series. Competitors placed 1st to 4th at an Area Qualifier are then eligible to enter a Regional Final (second round) providing they become a member.
Competitors then placed 1st or 2nd at a Regional Final gain qualification to the VHS Supreme Final to be held at Arena UK, Lincolnshire on 4th to 6th September 2026.
Open to members and non-members. All competitors and grooms must adhere to VHS Rules in all circumstances. Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification. Those wishing to join or renew the Society will need to apply for this before 1st April each year or a late penalty fee of £15 will be charged. See VHS website for schedule.
VHS Regional Final qualification. All competitors placed 1st to 4th in each Area Qualifier class will qualify for the corresponding class at VHS Regional Finals. Members must carry their card in the ring at all times and have their showing card signed by the judge as proof of qualification. Non-members will receive a red qualification card which can be exchanged for signed showing card when applying for VHS membership, this MUST be done within 21 days of qualification.
It is the competitors’ responsibility to present their Showing card to the judge.
Regional Finals are open to members only.

LONDON INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW QUALIFYING CLASSES
LIHS 2026: 17th – 21st December
Competitors and horses must hold a minimum of LIHS Qualifier-Eligible Membership/ Horse Registration with the Association to be eligible to compete in the LIHS BSHA Showing series. Any competitor who qualifies for a LIHS Showing Series Supreme Final, must then complete full LIHS Qualified registration within 14 days of qualification for their qualification to stand, or it will pass to the next eligible exhibit (the nominal cost of Qualifier-Eligible membership will be taken off the cost of Full LIHS registration). Any competitors/ horses which have existing BSHA membership/ registration for 2026 will not be required to complete any LIHS Membership / Registration for these classes.
LIHS RISING STAR CLASSES 2026

Class/es 121, 122, 123 and 124 qualify for LIHS BSHA Showing Series Supreme Finals at the London International Horse Show, highest placed unqualified in top five to qualify.
A results points table will run for all qualifying classes, and a ‘wild card’ will be awarded to those unqualified with the highest points in each section following the final qualifier.
The Judge will NOT ride exhibits in these classes or at the Finals.
Equine Section
Class: 121 BSHA RISING STAR OF COB TYPE

Description:

Lightweight/Heavyweight/Maxi Cob type: Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, exceeding 148cms. Rider to be 15yrs or over. To be shown hogged. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising 14Star Cob Supreme Final at the LIHS in December.
QUALIFICATION WILL BE CONFIRMED BY EMAIL ONCE FULL LIHS QUALIFIED MEMBERSHIP & HORSE REGISTRATION IS COMPLETED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF QUALIFICATION. Please note LIHS Qualifier-Eligible membership must be in place before entering any BSHA LIHS qualifying class.
In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Rising Star Cob final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September.

Description:

Open Racehorse to Show Horse: Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 148cm. Open to thoroughbred horses or Arab horses retired from race training. Rider to be 15yrs or over. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Open Racehorse to Show Horse Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. This class is open to all competitors.

:Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 148cm. Open to ALL types, rider to be aged over 25 years on 1st January 2026. This is a flat class to be judged solely on performance, there will be no conformation marks awarded, and exhibits will not be stripped.
The highest unqualified horse placed in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Open Style & Performance Over 25 Supreme Final at the LIHS in December.

Exhibitors will ride together as a class, which will be considered as part of the collective marks. Exhibitors will then be asked to perform a freestyle show/ display (max 2.5 mins), which will be marked, to include, (but not restricted to), in any order:
• on both reins, walk, trot and canter.
• halt in the middle of the show/display for 4 secs before proceeding.
• a canter change of rein across the diagonal through trot or walk (5 strides max).
• lengthened canter strides.
• free walk on a long rein.
Marks:
Performance (not to exceed 2.5 minutes) 140 Marks
