Cumberland Agricultural Society Heavy Horse and Light Horse Section 2026
Entry 2026 – Wristband passes. Two wristbands will be allocated to the first horse, one for each subsequent horse up to a maximum of four wristbands. Wristbands must be worn on entry to the Showground. Anybody without a wristband will be charged for entry.
Parking - All light Horses and working hunter competitors must park as directed by official parking attendants. To gain access to the show rings, all competitors must use the horse walkways provided.
Start Times - Please note that there may be some traffic congestion leading up to and on the show field, therefore please allow plenty of time to arrive and prepare for your class. A timetable with start times/or not before times will be available no later than 24 hours before show day on the show website and published on social media. Under no circumstances will judging be delayed due to either the late arrival of competitors or to accommodate a competitor in another ring. Exhibits will not be allowed into the show ring once the command for trot has been given (ridden classes) or judging has commenced (In hand classes).
Competitor Numbers – Will be issued in advance of the show. Please ensure you are wearing the correct number for each of your classes as detailed in the catalogue. Failure to do so could jeopardise your qualification.
Insufficient entries - The Committee reserve the right to amalgamate or split classes if necessary.
Prize Money – The society awards prize money 1st £20; 2nd £10; 3rd £5 unless otherwise stated. Where classes have 3 or less catalogued animals entered, only first prize money will be awarded in those classes.
Supreme In hand, Supreme Ridden Light Horse Championship & Supreme working hunter champion - To be judged at the end of the Light Horses Classes. The Society offers £75 to the champion and £25 to the reserve. The three champions will then be judged for the overall Light Horse Championship.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INSURANCE OF ANIMALS AND ASSOCIATED PUBLIC LIABILITY LIE WITH THE OWNER AND EXHIBITOR. THIS IS A CONDITION OF ENTRY
Cumberland Agricultural Society Champion of Champions – The Champion Heavy Horse, the winner of the David Allen trophy and the winner of the Margaret Ogden Sash will be eligible to compete in the Cumberland Agricultural Society Champion of Champions competition in the Main Show Ring.
The Showing Council Code of Practice for the Welfare of Equines – The Cumberland Agricultural Society adhere to the Code of Practice as set out by The Showing Council regarding the Welfare of Equines at Events.
Equine Influenza - In keeping with current Showing Council guidelines, The Cumberland Show Equine Influenza policy is as follows: Equine Influenza and Tetanus vaccinations are a compulsory requirement for all horses attending the Cumberland County Show. The requirement for the first 3 vaccinations is
as follows: the first 2 vaccinations 21 – 92 days apart, a third booster between 150-215 days, and an annual booster vaccination within 365 days thereafter. No horse should enter competitions within 7 days of an EI vaccination. Foals should commence vaccinations at 6 months old. This Rule may be subject to change from guidance from the FEI/BEF and any changes will be notified via the Showing Council and ASAO websites.
Trimming Of Whiskers - please be aware of individual society guidelines – for the avoidance of doubt within the unaffiliated classes the Cumberland Agricultural Society follow the showing society guidelines which state Sensory hairs are the hard hairs located on the horse’s muzzle and around the eyes, also known as ‘whiskers’ that are used for sensation. It is recommended that horses should not have whiskers trimmed or removed (other than for veterinary purposes or with a vet’s certificate). Mares and Foals should present with no evidence of whiskers or sensory hairs removed.

The Cumberland Show is currently affiliated to the following societies which may affect more than one section and competitors entering this show whether they be members or not of the society agree to abide by the rules of those societies:
BRITISH SHOW PONY SOCIETY (BSPS) – Affiliation No 1087/26
Entries in these classes are open to all. The following classes are affiliated to the BSPS – 28-31 and 33-46 (WHP)
This show is affiliated to the British Show Pony Society (BSPS) and all persons entering, competing, showing or otherwise taking part in BSPS classes, whether or not members of the BSPS are subject to the rules of the BSPS including the disciplinary procedures, and shall be deemed to have consented to the jurisdiction of the BSPS.
LONDON INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW QUALIFYING CLASSES
LIHS 2026: 17th – 21st December 2026
Competitors and horses must hold a minimum of LIHS Qualifier-Eligible Membership/ Horse Registration with the Association to be eligible to compete in the LIHS BSHA Showing Series supported by Horse & Hound. Any competitor who qualifies for a LIHS Showing Series Supreme Final, must then complete full LIHS Qualified registration within 14 days of qualification for their qualification to stand, or it will pass to the next eligible exhibit (the nominal cost of Qualifier-Eligible membership will be taken off the cost of Full LIHS registration). Any competitors/ horses which have existing BSHA membership/ registration for 2026 will not be required to complete any LIHS Membership / Registration for these classes.
LIHS RISING STAR CLASSES 2026

Class/es 121, 122, 123 and 124 qualify for LIHS BSHA Rising Star Supreme Finals at the London International Horse Show, highest placed unqualified in top five to 13 qualify.
A results points table will run for all qualifying classes, and a ‘wild card’ will be awarded to those unqualified with the highest points in each section following the final qualifier.
The Judge will NOT ride exhibits in these classes or at the Finals.
COLOURED HORSE & PONY SOCIETY (CHAPS) UK – Affiliation - 26-101
This show is affiliated to The Coloured Horse Pony Society (UK). Both owner and the rider/exhibitor need not be a member of CHAPS (UK) nor must the horse or pony be registered with CHAPS (UK) to compete. However in order to Qualify both Owner and Rider/Exhibitor need to be a current showing member and present their valid Qualifier card IN THE RING for signing by the judge. Members to apply in writing to CHAPS (UK) for appropriate qualifier card. The CHAPS (UK) Championship Show will be held on 20th to 22nd August 2026. The following classes are CHAPS (UK) Qualifiers (Classes). (CHAPS registered animals in classes, Sport Horse class and in the Veteran section classes may also qualify.

All stallions, 4 years old and over entering these classes must be graded with CHAPS (UK). All stallions must wear Stallion ID Discs in the ring without exception.
NORTHERN COUNTIES PONIES ASSOCIATION (NCPA) – Affiliation No 254/26
This show is affiliated to the Northern Counties Pony of the Year Show September 2026 to be held at Warren Farm EC, Formby L37 0AN on the 13th September 2026. 1st & 2nd prize winners in appropriate classes will qualify. The Supreme and Reserve In Hand & Ridden Champions will qualify for the NCPA GOLDEN SUPREMES.
NATIONAL PONY SOCIETY (NPS) – Affiliation No S5.121
This show is affiliated to the NPS – entrants do not need to be members of the NPS to compete. The following classes are affiliated to NPS (Part bred Arab) (Shetland Ponies), (Fell Ponies), (IH and Ridden M & M’s).
NPS Qualifying Rounds: These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. Ponies must be registered in any of the British Riding Pony studbook sections or the Ridden Register; the GSB; the AHSB; the AASB, or registered in the main body of their respective M&M Stud Book. Part breds are not eligible unless overstamped into one of the British Riding Pony studbook sections. or the Ridden Register. Qualifying rounds for most NPS competitions are open to ponies owned by NPS members and non members but only ponies owned by adult NPS Qualifying or Life members are eligible to qualify for the final of the competition at the NPS Summer Championship Show at Malvern from 4th – 6th August 2026. The highest placed pony, if owned by an NPS member, in each class will qualify for the final. Qualification may pass down to third place if the first and second ponies are already qualified.
NPS/WTJ Insurance Brokers Ltd Home Produced Ridden Championship - Riders of Home Produced ponies (see definition in the NPS Rules Book) can wear a white arm band in classes where this is indicated. These ponies, if owned by NPS members, are then eligible to qualify for the final at the NPS Summer Championship Show. The Owner’s Membership cards MUST be produced in the ring when requested or the qualification will be forfeit.
NPS Silver Medal Rosette Championships: These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. NPS Silver Medal Rosettes are only awarded when the owner of the champion pony is a Qualifying or Life member of the NPS. A valid membership card must be in the rider’s/handler’s possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the judge or the steward. If the owner of the Champion pony is not a member, or the owner’s membership card is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the Reserve Champion provided they have the required membership card. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette, but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony, provided the owner of that pony is a member of the NPS. The Silver Medal Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships.
RETRAINING of RACEHORSES (RoR)
Tattersalls RoR NOVICE Ridden Show Series Qualifier 2026
Thoroughbred mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, any height, must have raced in GB and have current RoR Competition Membership. Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1st January 2026. Horses will be ridden by the Judge and will be stripped for conformation assessment. Horses to be ridden in a snaffle, pelham or simple double bridle with a plain cavesson noseband. Horses should be plaited.
All those entering and/or participating in RoR classes agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force.
Competitors/grooms must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap.
Racing injuries and blemishes are NOT ignored in this series
The first three go forward to the Final at The Jockey Club RoR National Championships Aintree, August 22nd, 2026.
Prizes – RoR rosettes 1st –4th plus Tattersalls RoR official merchandise voucher 1st £30, 2nd £20, 3rd £10
To take part in this class, horses must NOT have won: a ridden open class under any affiliated showing society including (inc SEIB/HOYS, BSHA, SHB(GB) BSPS, BSPA, Tattersalls RoR Open /Amateur Ridden Show Series Qualifier, TARRA Ridden, or any other open class except Tattersalls RoR Challenge Show Series, other Working Hunter type classes or RoR In Hand classes. Unaffiliated Show wins are not considered.
Horses may remain in the Tattersalls RoR Novice Ridden Show Series (Formerly RoR Jockey Club Novice Show Series) classes until they have won three Tattersalls RoR Novice Show Series Qualifiers. They are de-noviced on their third novice win or at midnight on the day they win an open class, whichever happens first. They are still eligible to compete in the Tattersalls RoR Novice Final at The Jockey Club RoR National Championships.
Tattersalls RoR Scottish Open Show Series Qualifier 2027
Thoroughbred mare or gelding, 4years old or over, any height.
Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1st of January 2026.
Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, pelham or simple double bridle with a plain cavesson noseband. Horses should be plaited.
All entries MUST have current RoR competition registration and have RACED in GB. There will be a prize for the highest placed veteran 15 years or over. The class will run under the rules of RoR. Horses to be ridden by the judge. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force’
Competitors/handlers/grooms must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap.

The first three go forward to the Series Final at the Royal Highland Show June 2027. If the first three are already qualified, the qualification will go down the line to fourth.

The winner also qualifies for the Tattersalls RoR Open Ridden Show Series Special at the Jockey Club RoR National Championships on August 22nd, 2026. The Highest Placed Veteran qualifies for the RoR Ridden Veteran Final on the same day.
HORSE & COUNTRY RACEHORSES (HCR) series is open to Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds who have raced, trained or been bred to race. Racing injuries will be ignored providing the horse is sound. Riders must be 14 years plus, ridden horses must be 4 years plus and veterans are 12 years plus. Judges will not ride and you will not be asked to gallop as a ride but maybe asked to gallop in your individual show.
EXMOOR PONIES
All Exmoor Ponies must be registered in Section 1 of the Exmoor Pony Society Stud Book. All competing Exmoor pony stallions (In Hand, Ridden, WHP etc) aged 4 yrs and over should be licensed with the Exmoor Pony Society.
SHETLAND PONY STUD-BOOK SOCIETY
This show is affiliated to SPSBS, NPS & SSPC for Shetland pony classes. Please note the following information.
Classes must be confined to SPS-BS registered ponies. Ponies must be named on the entry form and in the catalogue if one is produced. Society rosettes must only be given to ponies registered with the Society or to foals eligible for registration.
Three-year-old fillies with foals at foot may not be shown. All foals must be a minimum of three weeks old on the day of the Show.
To enter a stallion in ANY class (in-hand or performance) at an affiliated show, entire males aged 4 years old and over must have an “S” number and have been successfully through either the SPS-BS Stallion assessment prior to 2006 or the current SPS-BS Voluntary Veterinary Examination. Ridden stallions MUST display a stallion bridle badge. In hand colts/stallions of two years old or over must be shown bitted and are advised to display a colt or stallion bridle badge, these are available to purchase from the SPS-BS.
There must be no colts or stallions in Young Handlers classes. Young Handlers must be a minimum of 3 years of age on the day of the show. Children under 14 years old may not show colts (excluding foals) or Stallions in In-hand classes.
Children aged under 12 years old on the day of their class may not show a stallion in ridden classes. In the interests of safety, hard hats conforming to current British Safety standards must be worn, correctly secured, by all handlers aged 14 years or under in In-hand classes. For Health & Safety purposes judges and exhibitors must remain standing whilst in the ring when showing ponies. KNEELING IS NOT PERMITTED. Hard hats conforming to current British Safety standards must be worn, correctly secured, by all exhibitors, irrespective of age, in ridden classes. Ridden and driven ponies must be 4 years old or over. In ridden Classes, if a rider falls off at any time whilst in the ring, both pony and rider must leave the ring, rider dismounted, and take no further part.
TGCA TOYS IN HAND AND RIDDEN CLASSES AFFILLIATION NUMBER TGCA 26/0606/ULT
No known breeding required to enter these classes
TGCA Breed classes are qualifiers for the Best of Breed Finals at the Traditional Gypsy Cob Association's (TGCA) National Breed Championship Show “TOYS”. Classes are open to all traditional gypsy cobs.
Part Bred classes, are open to all part bred traditional gypsy cobs and are qualifiers for the part bred finals at “TOYS”. The exhibit must have one parent that is pure bred traditional gypsy cob.
Stallions – All stallions (pure or part bred, four years and over) in order to enter any TGCA affiliated class MUST be TGCA registered, have passed TGCA stallion evaluations and their TGCA stallion disc displayed on their bridle. Stallions and colts over the age of two, MUST be shown in a stallion bridle with a metal bit and chain lead as per the current TGCA rulebook.
Current TGCA members must present their Membership card and Qualification card to the judge in the ring for signature. Non-members MUST receive a qualification card from the judge and have 21 days to join the TGCA and register their horse to validate the qualification. Championships
Quest for a Star Championship - TGC - 1st, 2nd and 3rd from the TGCA classes above may go forward to the Quest for a Star Championship (separate Quest Championship for Mini Cobs) as per below rule.
ONLY current TGCA members and horse/pony that is already TGCA registered can exhibit in this championship.
Membership card and Members qualification card (specific to that exhibit) must be presented upon entry into the ring. The Champion and Reserve qualify for the Ultimate Star Championships at TOYS.
Go for Glory Championship - PB -1st, 2nd and 3rd from the TGCA part bred classes may go forward to the Go for Glory Championships. From 31st August 2025 the handler/rider and exhibits need to be TGCA members/registered on the date of the show. The Champion and Reserve qualify for the Crowning Glory Championships at TOYS.TOYS In hand & ridden classes qualifying Classes. No known breeding required to enter these classes. No membership required to enter these classes. TGCA Breed classes are qualifiers for the Best of Breed Finals at the Traditional GypsyCob Association's (TGCA) National Breed Championship Show “TOYS”. VETERAN HORSE SOCIETY (VHS)
An Area qualifier is the first of the three rounds in the Veteran Horse Society showing series. Competitors placed 1st to 4th at an Area Qualifier are then eligible to enter a Regional Final (second round) providing they become a member.
Competitors then placed 1st or 2nd at a Regional Final gain qualification to the VHS Supreme Final to be held at Arena UK, Lincolnshire on 4th to 6th September 2026.
Open to members and non-members. All competitors and grooms must adhere to VHS Rules in all circumstances. Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification. Those wishing to join or renew the Society will need to apply for this before 1st April each year or a late penalty fee of £15 will be charged. See VHS website for schedule.
VHS Regional Final qualification. All competitors placed 1st to 4th in each Area Qualifier class will qualify for the corresponding class at VHS Regional Finals. Members must carry their card in the ring at all times and have their showing card signed by the judge as proof of qualification. Non-members will receive a red qualification card which can be exchanged for signed showing card when applying for VHS membership, this MUST be done within 21 days of qualification.
It is the competitors’ responsibility to present their Showing card to the judge.
Regional Finals are open to members only.
All competitors are eligible to enter open classes at the National Veteran Championships, 4th to 6th September 2026. No qualification or membership necessary. CALEDONIAN SHOWING CHAMPIONSHIPS
This show is a qualifier for the Caledonian Showing Championships, which is now fully established as the biggest and best way to end Scottish showing season
This year’s show will be held at Howe EC, near Ladybank, Fife on 16/17/18 October 2026
Every horse & pony placed 1st in all In-hand, Ridden Showing classes (not fun classes) & Working Hunter/Pony classes will qualify to compete in any appropriate class at the Finals. All Champions & Reserves will qualify for the Champion & Reserves Stakes Finals. Qualification will be from placings, no qualification cards will be awarded in the ring, and no qualification can go down the line.

THE CLYDESDALE HORSE SOCIETY
The Clydesdale Horse Society Shield.
A Shield (which will be supplied and engraved by The Clydesdale Horse Society) will be awarded to the best yearling or two-year-old colt or filly, registered or eligible for registration with the Society, not having won a Shield before in its lifetime. The exhibitor must be a current member of The Clydesdale Horse Society.
Please note for the avoidance of any doubt, that geldings cannot win this
shield, nor can grade ups and colts out of grade up mares.
Please note (and new for 2026) that any horse with a clipped tail, subject to transitional arrangements if the tail was clipped in 2025, cannot win the Clydesdale Horse Society Shield.
This rule applies at the Clydesdale Horse Society Winter Fair in 2026 and for 2026
Affiliated Shows which award the Clydesdale Horse Society Shield for the best Yearling
and Two-Year-Old Colt or Filly presented at that show.
For Affiliated Shows in 2026 the following rule will apply:
(a) No yearling or two-year-old Clydesdale with a clipped tail which has entered a show affiliated to the Clydesdale Horse Society, will be permitted to win a Clydesdale Horse Society Shield.
(b) No Clydesdale aged under 3 years with a clipped tail will be permitted entry to the Clydesdale Horse Society Winter Fair.
(c) It is recognised that in the first year of this rule there will require to be some latitude given to horses whose tails may have been clipped during 2025.
(d) This rule will be communicated and highlighted to all show Secretaries as part of the 2026 Affiliated Show Regulations.
(e) A communication will go to every judge on the Clydesdale Horse Society Judge’s Panel informing them of this decision and asking them to apply it.
(f) Shows which choose to appoint Judges who are not on the Clydesdale Horse Society Judges Panel must inform their nominated Judges accordingly.
(g) This decision will be communicated to The Great Yorkshire Show, The Royal Highland Show, The Shire Horse Society, and the Scottish Government. Furthermore, the Society’s Executive Committee will be given the latitude to circulate this rule to any other relevant party who raises questions on the matter.
Young Handlers Class: An engraved medal is presented by The Clydesdale Horse Society to the best young handler aged 12 to 16 on the day of the show who has not already qualified. That person will also receive a Young Handler qualifier rosette on the day of the show.
The capabilities of the handler are to be assessed, not the animal being led.
Qualifiers from any show held prior to 30th April in any year will qualify for the Young Handler final at the Royal Highland Show in the year of that show. Qualifier after 30th April in any year will qualify for Young Handler Final at the following year’s Royal Highland Show.
A merit rosette will be given to all entrants in the class. The James Bennett Fund generously sponsors the Young Handler Scheme and The Young Handler Final.
HIGHLAND PONY SOCIETY - ponies must be registered in the full body of the Highland Pony Society Stud Book (including appendices A, B & C). All competing Highland pony stallions (In Hand, Ridden, WHP etc) aged 4yrs and over must be licensed with the Highland Pony
