The service voucher may be used in either of the two years following the year of that award. The Clydesdale Horse Society Shield.
A Shield (which will be supplied and engraved by The Clydesdale Horse Society) will be awarded to the best yearling or two-year-old colt or filly, registered or eligible for registration with the Society, not having won a Shield before in its lifetime. The exhibitor must be a current member of The Clydesdale Horse Society.
Young Handlers Class
An engraved medal is presented by The Clydesdale Horse Society to the best young handler aged 12 to 16 on the day of the show who has not already qualified. That person will also receive a Young Handler qualifier rosette on the day of the show. The capabilities of the handler are to be assessed, not the animal being led. Qualifiers from any show held prior to 30th April in any year will qualify for the Young Handler final at the Royal Highland Show in the year of that show. Qualifier after 30th April in any year will qualify for Young Handler Final at the following year’s Royal Highland Show.
A merit rosette will be given to all entrants in the class. The James Bennett Fund generously sponsors the Young Handler Scheme and The Young Handler Final.
This rule applies at our own Clydesdale Horse Society Winter Fair in 2026 and for 2026
Affiliated Shows which award the Clydesdale Horse Society Shield for the best Yearling and Two-Year-Old Colt or Filly presented at that show.
For Affiliated Shows in 2026 the following rules will apply:
(a) No yearling or two-year-old Clydesdale with a clipped tail which has entered a show affiliated to the Clydesdale Horse Society, will be permitted to win a Clydesdale Horse Society Shield.
(b) No Clydesdale aged under 3 years with a clipped tail will be permitted entry to the Clydesdale Horse Society Winter Fair.
(c) It is recognised that in the first year of this rule there will require to be some latitude given to horses whose tails may have been clipped during 2025.
(d) This rule will be communicated and highlighted to all show Secretaries as part of the 2026 Affiliated Show Regulations.
(e) A communication will go to every judge on the Clydesdale Horse Society Judge’s Panel informing them of this decision and asking them to apply it.
(f) Shows which choose to appoint Judges who are not on the Clydesdale Horse Society Judges Panel must inform their nominated Judges accordingly.
(g) This decision will be communicated to The Great Yorkshire Show, The Royal Highland Show, The Shire Horse Society, and the Scottish Government. Furthermore, the Society’s Executive Committee will be given the latitude to circulate this rule to any other relevant party who raises questions on the matter. We can also confirm that the Scottish Government has been made aware of this rule change and has “welcomed the positive and constructive steps the Clydesdale Horse Society’ has taken to safeguard the welfare of younger horses at shows associated with the society.”

NPS Silver Medal Rosettes are only awarded when the owner of the champion pony is a qualifying or life member of the NPS. A valid membership card must be in the rider’s/handler’s possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the judge or the steward. If the owner of the champion pony is not a member, or the owner’s membership card is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the reserve champion, provided they have the required membership card. If the champion pony has previously qualified, it is still entitled to the silver medal rosette, but the qualification card goes to the reserve champion pony, provided the owner of that pony is a member of the NPS. The silver medal rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for silver medal championships.
Qualifiers are entitled to compete in the final of the Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show in August 2027

11. Conflict of Interest: Within the equestrian community there may be times when conflicts occur. For guidance, it has been determined that a perceived/potential conflict of interest could arise in the event that an appointed judge has a previous or current connection to a horse entered in the competition. Examples of such connections and interests include, but not limited to, the following. The judge has; bred or previously owned the horse or acted as an agent in its sale; previously competed, trained or kept the horse at livery; previously or currently had a financial or other interest in the horse. In the event that a judge/owner/rider (or their agent) knows of, or should know of, any potential and/or perceived conflict of interest in a horse entered in the competition they must declare this to the Organiser as soon as it is known. Steps will be taken to manage it as practically as possible. Any potential conflicts will be written and displayed next to the scoreboard. Conflicts at the Final will be avoided and managed by Burghley Horse Trials.
12. It is a condition of entry that all riders, owners, grooms, and their connections/relatives, must conduct themselves and communicate in a respectful manner towards the public, officials, and all other parties present or entered in the competition. Such behaviour includes respect for the Judges and their decisions, which are final. Offensive behaviour, and/or other violations of this condition, may lead to sanctions such as disqualification and future bans.
