In-Hand Suffolk Horses

This Show is affiliated to the Suffolk Horse Society (SHS) and classes are qualifiers for championship points for annually awarded trophies and for the Supreme Suffolk Horse Championship.

All entries for In-Hand classes must be registered in or eligible for registration in the Pedigree Section of the UK Suffolk Stud Book. All entries must state their SHS registration number and full pedigree name including prefix or affix.

All foals must be eligible for registration in the Pedigree Section of the UK Suffolk Stud Book. Both the sire and the dam must be registered and entered in the pedigree section of the UK Suffolk Stud Book.

All stallions must be registered in the Pedigree Section of the UK Suffolk Stud Book. All entries must state their SHS registration number, stallion licence number and full pedigree name including prefix or affix. Discretionary entry to a stallion class may be allowed in cases where a licence is pending but not yet issued.

Mixed Heavy Horses

These classes are open to any non-Suffolk pure bred heavy horse.

This show is a qualifier for the Shire Horse Society Summer Brood Mare Supreme Championship – see class 7 for details.

Class: 7 MARE, with or without foal at foot.

Description:

This class is a qualifier for the Shire Horse Society’s Summer Brood Mare Supreme Championship, with the final being held at the 2026 National Summer Show at Rockingham Castle on 27 August 2026, where the ultimate winner will receive prize money of £1,000 with £500 to second, £250 to third, £100 to fourth, £50 to fifth and then £25 from sixth to tenth. The highest placed eligible Shire with foal at foot to qualify.

Ridden Heavy Horses

This class is a qualifier for the BRHH Eversley Ridden Heavy Horse Championship to be held at Arena UK, Grantham, Lincolnshire on the 5th – 8th August 2026. The two highest placed exhibits not already qualified will qualify (there must be a minimum of three horses forward in the class on the day for the qualifier to be awarded). Qualification to be awarded no lower than third place if the winning horse has already qualified. At shows where there is no Ride Judge a stand/individual show will be required. Riders will be required to give a short individual show at walk, trot & canter or set show lasting approximately 2 minutes. Change of rein and lengthened strides in trot and canter must be shown. Rein back, (optional) stand still and obedience to the leg. Horses should leave the ring at a walk or trot. Entries will not be asked to jump. If there is both a Ride and Conformation Judge a marking system will be used: 6 Ride / manners Conformation / type assessment marks to be awarded out of a possible 50. marks to be awarded out of a possible 50. When judging classes using the Marks System horses should be stripped for the Conformation Judge. Where there is an equality of marks, the ride marks take precedence, however if there still remains a tie then the Ride Judge’s decision is final. If an exhibitor declines the Judge’s ride the horse will not be placed.

Class: 15 RIDDEN HEAVY HORSE, four years old or over.

Description:

Open to pure-bred heavy horses, four years old or over that are registered in the main British Stud Books of the Shire, Clydesdale, Suffolk or Percheron Societies. Horses must be entered in the name and ownership under which they are registered.

Heavy Horse Turnouts - Any Pure Breed

The Tendring Hundred Farmers' Club will pay an attendance allowance of £75 for each heavy horse single turnout and £125 for a pairs turnout.

Scurry

This class will be judged on time, with five seconds added to the final score for every ball dislodged.

Cones will be set at 1.7m wide. Vehicle width must be included on the entry form.

Donkeys

Classes are open to all donkeys, whether or not owned by DBS members.

The In-Hand Champion Donkey at this Show automatically qualifies for the relevant Championship at the DBS Annual Supreme Championship Show, provided it is owned by a fully paid-up member of the DBS. A donkey may win more than one Championship at shows but will qualify only once for the DBS Supreme Championship Show. Where the In-Hand Champion donkey has previously qualified, the Reserve Champion donkey will be deemed the qualifier.

Rosettes - The Donkey Breed Society will award rosettes to donkeys owned by members of the DBS, as follows:

Best Gelding in classes 19 and 21; Best Yearling and Best Two Year Old in class 21; Best Foal in class 25; Best Young Handler (handler not to have attained their 16 birthday on the day of the Show); Best Local Donkey.

Regulations:
1) Entering one donkey and showing another is not allowed.
2) Stallions and entire colts must be properly dressed in bridle and bit with leading rein correctly attached to the bit.
Donkey Judging Ring

This class will be judged 75% condition and 25% turnout, conformation will not be considered.

Class: 27 Donkey Young Handler.

Description:

FREE ENTRY.
Handler not to have attained their 16th birthday on the day of the Show. This class will be judged purely on the dress, presentation and ability of the handler. Only donkeys entered in other classes at this show will be eligible to be shown in this class.

DBS Rosette.

Prizes: 1st - £10, 2nd - £8 and 3rd - £5
