For these classes all competitors will be judged over a course of WHP fences individually then will be asked to show a flat show piece along with a conformation section. THE ERNST & YOUNG TROPHY (79) to the winner of this class.

Open to horses and ponies, 4 years old and over: conformation and manners will be taken into consideration; horses/ponies will not be stripped. Competitors must wear a hat to current Safety Standard or above. To be run under the 2024 rules of www.sidesaddleassociation.co.uk

The sole criterion for this class is the elegance of the picture presented by horse/pony and rider, and the way of going of the horse/pony. Safe tack must be used. Competitors must wear a hat to current Safety Standard or above. Detailed inspection of the rider’s period costume is not required. Fancy dress is not permitted. Competitors are required to walk, trot and canter. No individual show is required, but the judge may ask small groups of 3 or 4 riders to give short displays. Competitors should produce a brief resume about their costumes for the Commentator.

IN HAND PONY OR HORSE 15 Years old & over (THE HURSLEY HUNT CUP NO.121 TO THE OVERALL WINNER OF THIS CLASS)

SSADL Home Produced Qualifiers are OPEN to both Members and Non-Members of SSADL No Spurs with the exception to senior side saddle riders, No Galloping or canter extensions, No Wearing of Face/Body Jewellery with the exception to the ear ring used by competitors with health problems. Foals are NOT permitted SSADL Classes. For In-Hand Classes- Minimum age of handler = 11 years old. First Ridden ponies/riders will be asked after the initial walk round to come into the centre of the ring. First Ridden Competitors will only canter in their individual shows. Lead Rein Riders: If a strip section is required a lead rein rider MUST stay mounted.
STALLIONS- Either for In Hand or Ridden classes, Competitors Must be 16 years of age or over. Competitors cannot enter the ring once the command of trot has been given. The same rider/handler/pony/horse combination must stay the same from qualifier to Grand Finals, unless special circumstances should arise, then it will be left to the discretion of the Directors and Advisory Committee to oversee this rule if required.

RIDDEN PONY OR HORSE 15 Years old & over (THE CHILBOLTON DOWN CUP NO.34 TO THE OVERALL WINNER OF THIS CLASS)

SSADL Home Produced Qualifiers are OPEN to both Members and Non-Members of SSADL No Spurs with the exception to senior side saddle riders, No Galloping or canter extensions, No Wearing of Face/Body Jewellery with the exception to the ear ring used by competitors with health problems. Foals are NOT permitted SSADL Classes. For In-Hand Classes- Minimum age of handler = 11 years old. First Ridden ponies/riders will be asked after the initial walk round to come into the centre of the ring. First Ridden Competitors will only canter in their individual shows. Lead Rein Riders: If a strip section is required a lead rein rider MUST stay mounted.
STALLIONS- Either for In Hand or Ridden classes, Competitors Must be 16 years of age or over. Competitors cannot enter the ring once the command of trot has been given. The same rider/handler/pony/horse combination must stay the same from qualifier to Grand Finals, unless special circumstances should arise, then it will be left to the discretion of the Directors and Advisory Committee to oversee this rule if required.

2024 Qualification System: SSADL Members will receive their own qualification card. This is to be signed in the at time of judging/presentation. This is the members’ responsibility to ensure the right qualifier is signed for.
1st to 6th in each age group will qualify for the London International Horse Show 2nd round qualifiers 2025.

Three years old and over, to be shown in hand. Foals to be at least three weeks old on show day. Special prize of £5 to the best foal.

Mares and geldings 4 years old and over. Sire or Dam must be a recognised heavy horse breed. Judge will not ride. Pure breds will be judged traditionally and part-breds may be asked to canter in their individual show.

Single Turnout in Harness with 2 wheeled vehicle driven by a lady. Traditional costume to be worn.
