Young Sheep Handler
Conditions:
• This Section is open for entries from fully Maedi-Visna Accredited flocks and Non MaediVisna flocks. Please state the breed and indicate MV status clearly on the Entry Form
• These classes are FREE to enter.
• Entries can be made on the day but must be declared to the Chief Steward before the section commences.
• Young Handlers should only handle animals where they have the necessary strength and experience to manage them.
• Young Handlers must always be under the supervision of and accompanied by a competent adult in the ring.
RBST YOUNG SHEPHERD OF THE YEAR
The winner/s of the Junior Handling Classes will be eligible to take part in the RBST Young Shepherd Competition 2023. If the Class winner has already qualified the next highest placed eligible competitor not previously qualified can go forward.
RBST qualifying age categories (the age of the child on the day of qualifying)
• Junior Young Shepherd 8 – 12 years
• Senior Young Shepherd 13 – 16 years
It is the handler that qualifies regardless of what sheep breed they are showing.
The Grand Final for the 2023 RBST Young Shepherd competition will take place at the English Winter Fair, Staffordshire County Showground on Saturday 18th November, further details will be provided in each qualifier pack.
The Junior Young Shepherd of the Year will win the Outlane Trophy and the Senior Young Shepherd of the Year will win the Harrison Challenge Trophy. The winners from each class will then compete for the overall Young Shepherd of the Year. The winner of the Junior and Senior category will receive £50 and the Championship Rosette, the Junior and Senior Reserve will receive £25 and Reserve Champion Rosette

• A maximum of 2 entries per exhibitor.
• Sheep can be judged either shorn or unshorn and should be shown in the state demanded in their Flock Book. Lambs are not
eligible.
NOTE: In the event of insufficient entries being received for these Classes, any entries received will be amalgamated.

• Sheep must be shown under British Texel Sheep Society rules, please note rule 11.6:
No dressing, trimming, clipping or excessive use of dips on the fleeces of sheep will be permitted. No artificial whitening on any part of the sheep is permitted. An inspector may be present at the sale or show, they have the authority to disqualify any sheep, which in their opinion, are below a minimum standard with regard to breed type or are found to be contravening the Society Bye-laws, right up to the point of sale. The decision of the inspector shall be final and failure to accept the inspector’s decision will result in the entire consignment or show team being rejected.

• All Sheep must be from current members of the Southdown Sheep Society.
• All Sheep must be owned by exhibitors for a minimum of four months prior to the show.
• All Sheep to be shown to breed society rules.
• All adult Sheep should be shorn after February 1st, 2023.
• This Section is open for entries from Non Maedi-Visna flocks only.
• All sheep entered in this section must be from flocks registered in the Southdown Sheep Society Flock Book.
• Sheep entered must be eligible for registration with the breed association.
• All Sheep must be from current members of the Southdown Sheep Society.
• All Sheep must be owned by exhibitors for a minimum of four months prior to the show.
• All Sheep to be shown to breed society rules.
• All adult Sheep should be shorn after February 1st, 2023.
