i. The Wessex Shetland Pony Group offer a rosette for the highest placed pony in each class owned by a WSPG member on production of a current membership card. Contact group secretary Carol Hodder 01935 412888 for membership details.
ii. The South West Shetland Pony Group will present a special rosette to the highest placed pony owned by a Member in each class. Current Membership cards MUST be produced in the ring.
iii. This Show is affiliated to the Shetland Pony Stud-Book Society; Classes must be confined to registered ponies. Ponies must be named on the entry form and in the catalogue. Society rosettes will only be given to ponies registered with the Stud-Book Society or foals eligible for registration. Three-year-old fillies with foals may not be shown. All foals must be a minimum of three weeks old on the day of the Show. Ridden stallions MUST display a stallion bridle badge. In-hand stallions 2 years and over are advised to display a stallion bridle badge.
iv. Exhibitors under 14 yrs old may not show colts (excluding foals) or entire males in In-hand classes. Exhibitors under 12 yrs old on the day of the Show may not show entire males in ridden classes. Exhibitors should not kneel but remain standing while in the ring. Hard hats must be worn by all exhibitors, irrespective of age, in ridden classes. Ridden ponies must be 4 years old or over. In ridden classes, if a rider falls off at any time whilst in the ring, both pony and rider must leave the ring, rider dismounted, and take no further part.
v. In the interest of safety, hard hats must be worn by all Exhibitors aged 14 years of age or under in In-hand classes.

NPS/Blackertor & Sharptor Studs M&M In Hand Silver Medal Rosette Championship A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the National Pony Society for the best registered pony owned by an NPS qualifying or Life member in the NPS Affiliated M&M In Hand section. Owner’s membership cards must be presented in the ring to receive the medal and/or qualification.
NPS Silver Medal Rosette Championships: These classes are judged under the Rules of the NPS. NPS Silver Medal Rosettes are only awarded when the owner of the champion pony is a Qualifying or Life member of the NPS. A valid membership card must be in the rider’s/handler’s possession on entering the ring and be produced immediately on request by either the judge or the steward. If the owner of the Champion pony is not a member, or the owner’s membership card is not immediately produced, the rosette may be awarded to the Reserve Champion provided they have the required membership card. If the Champion pony has previously qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette, but the qualification card goes to the Reserve Champion pony, provided the owner of that pony is a member of the NPS. The Silver Medal Rosette and the qualification card can be awarded no lower than first Reserve (third). Foals are not eligible for Silver Medal Championships. Qualifiers are entitled to compete in the final of the Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show 4th – 6th August 2026.

Amateur definition:
The rules are as in the rulebook with the following addition that an amateur may not show a horse owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm. In addition, a person classed as amateur must not be supported by a company in any way or act as brand ambassador whether financially or in-kind.
An amateur is a person who for the purpose of RoR classes does not/has not during the current season or previous season: Engage (d) in breeding, livery, buying or selling, dealing or hiring horses in a commercial capacity. Horses must not have been stabled at or reside in a Professional Producer's/Trainer's yard from January 1st, 2024. Riders must not have ridden any animals produced by a Professional/Trainer in the current or previous season. Horses and riders must not receive any help from a Professional Producer/Trainer at a SHOW in the current season.
A rider who has ridden for a Professional/Producer Trainer in the current or previous season must not have ridden horses at a show

Heavy Horse Ridden
This Show is affiliated to Equifest taking place at Arena UK, Grantham, Lincolnshire on the 5th-8th August 2026. The two highest exhibits not already qualified in each affiliated class will qualify.
Qualifiers are entitled to compete in the final of the BRHHS Eversley Ridden Heavy Horse Championship at Equifest,
Open to horses 4 years old and over that are registered in the main British Stud Books of the Shire, Clydesdale, Suffolk or Percheron Society at the time of qualification and must be entered in the name and ownership they are registered. Qualification will be awarded no lower than 3rd place if the winning horse ahs already qualified. At Shows where there is no Ride Judge a stand/individual show will be required. Riders will be required to give a short individual show at walk, trot & canter or set show lasting approximately 2 minutes. Change of rien and lengthened strides in trot and canter must be shown. Rein back, (optional) stand still and obedience to the leg. Horses should leave the ring at a walk or trot. Entries will not be asked to jump. If there is both a Ride and Conformation Judge a marking system will be used.

Ridden Hunters
i. The North Somerset Show is affiliated to the Sport Horse Breeding (GB) Society and all Hunter classes will be subject to its rules. Copies of the rules can be obtained from SHB(GB), Tel: 01732-866277 or www. sporthorsegb.co.uk. It is strongly recommended that competitors aged 18 or over wear correctly secured Skull Caps/Riding Hats that meet one of the following current Safety Standards: All PAS 015; VG1; ASTM F1163 04a onwards; SNELL E2001; AS/NZS 3838 2003 onwards. It is mandatory for competitors under the age of 18 to wear such skull caps or hats. ANY COMPETITOR NOT ADHERING TO THIS RULE WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE RING/CLASS
ii. Mare or gelding four years old and over exceeding 148cm, not having won three affiliated Novice classes or three affiliated Open classes (excepting Working and Ladies classes) before 1st January in the current year. OR, not having been placed 1-9 in ANY CLASS (excepting Working, Ladies and Search for a Star) at The Royal International Horse Show OR Horse of the Year Show before 1st January in the current year. A Novice may be shown in a snaffle bridle. iii. Class 356 is a qualifier for the Equifest Open Small Hunters. Classes 357 – 359 are qualifiers for the Equifest Ridden Hunters. v. Only horses registered with SHB (GB) and who are also registered on the current year’s Show Hunter Register are eligible to enter in Qualifying Classes for RIHS Ridden and Working Hunter Championships and the Show Hunter Registration Number must be quoted on entries. Any horse that is entered for a Qualifying Class without first being on the Show Hunter Register cannot subsequently be registered and therefore will not be eligible for entry in that class on the day and will be disqualified if forward.
vi. DAY TICKETS - Competitors may compete on a day ticket and may have a maximum of two Day Tickets er season. Each day ticket is valid for the entirety of the show (this covers all SHB(GB) Classes that require a membership and registration) and it covers owner and rider membership together with horse registration/over-stamp for that show. As a qualifying class for RIHS in order for the qualification to be valid, application for full owner/rider membership and horse registration/ over-stamp must be received in the SHB(GB) office within 14 days.

VHS In-Hand
i. Classes 360 – 362 are qualifiers for the Equifest Open In Hand Veteran Horse/Pony. The two highest placed exhibits not already qualified will qualify for the relevant Equifest Championship to be held at Arena UK, Grantham, Lincolnshire on the 5th - 8th August 2026.
ii. Open to members and non-members of the Veteran Horse Society. All competitors and grooms must adhere to VHS Rules in all circumstances. Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification. Those wishing to join or renew Society membership will need to apply for this before 1st July each year or a late penalty fee of £15 will be charged.
iii. Please see the Veteran Horse Society Rule book, available at veterarn-horse-society.co.uk/showing. Please take particular note of the following rules:
a. Riders/handlers of stallions must have attained their 16th birthday before the first of January in the current showing year. They must be of an appropriate size and competency to handle the stallion.
b. All Stallions must display a stallion bridle badge. VHS Stallion badges can be purchased via the VHS website.
c. Mares in foal or with foals at foot are not permitted to compete.

Non-members will receive a red qualification card which can be exchanged for signed showing card when applying for VHS membership, this MUST be done within 21 days of qualification. It is the competitors’ responsibility to present their Showing card to the judge. Regional Finals are open to members only.

VHS Ridden
i. Classes 363 – 365 are qualifiers for the Equifest Open Ridden Veteran Horse/Pony. The two highest placed exhibits not already qualified will qualify for the relevant Equifest Championship to be held at Arena UK, Grantham, Lincolnshire on the 5th - 8th August 2026.
ii. Open to members and non-members of the Veteran Horse Society. All competitors and grooms must adhere to VHS Rules in all circumstances. Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification. Those wishing to join or renew Society membership will need to apply for this before 1st July each year or a late penalty fee of £15 will be charged.
iii. Please see the Veteran Horse Society Rule book, available at veterarn-horse-society.co.uk/showing. Please take particular note of the following rules:
a. Riders/handlers of stallions must have attained their 16th birthday before the first of January in the current showing year. They must be of an appropriate size and competency to handle the stallion.
b. All Stallions must display a stallion bridle badge. VHS Stallion badges can be purchased via the VHS website.
c. Mares in foal or with foals at foot are not permitted to compete.
