Miniature Shetland Ponies

All classes affiliated to The Shetland Pony Stud-Book Society
Special Rules:

1. Classes must be confined to SPS-BS registered ponies. Ponies must be named on the entry form and in the catalogue if one is produced. Society rosettes must only be given to ponies registered with the Society or to foals eligible for registration.

2. Three-year-old-fillies with foals at foot may not be shown. All foals must a minimum of three weeks old on the day of the Show.

3. Entire males aged 4 years old and over must have an “S” number and have been successfully through either the SPSBS Stallion assessment prior to 2006 or the current SPSBS Voluntary Veterinary Examination. Ridden stallions MUST display a stallion bridle badge. In-hand stallions & colts 2 years and over must wear a correctly fitted bit are advised to display a stallion bridle badge.

4. There must be no colts or entire males in Young Handlers classes. Children under 14 years old may not show colts (excluding foals) or entire males in In-hand classes. Children under 12 years old on the day of the show may not show entire males in ridden classes. In the interests of safety, hard hats must be worn by all handlers aged 14 years or under in In-hand classes. Exhibitors should not kneel but remain standing while in the ring

The South West Shetland Pony Group will present a Special Rosette to the highest placed pony
owned by a Member in each class. Current Membership Cards MUST be produced in the RING.

The Wessex Shetland Pony Group will present a Special Rosette to the highest placed pony

NPS Novice Working Hunter

The NPS/ M&M Novice Working Hunter Pony National Championship. These classes are open to registered pure bred M&M stallions, mares and geldings, four years old or over. Ponies must be shown in a snaffle bit.
A pony is not eligible to compete if, before 1st January in the current year, it has done any of the following:
i) Won an open affiliated WHP class
ii) Qualified for Horse of the Year Show or RIHS Open WHP classes
iii) Qualified for the M&M Novice or Intermediate WHP final at the NPS Summer Championship show (N.B. Ponies can compete as novices in this competition for two consecutive years provided they do not submit an entry to the final in the first year).
iv) If a pony qualifies for Horse of the Year Show or RIHS in its second year it is immediately denoviced and cannot compete in the Novice WHP Final.
v) Ponies that have won more than 5 BE points or 200 BS points, at home or equivalent abroad before 1st January in the current year, are not eligible to compete in novice working classes.

Riders must have attained their 5th birthday but must not have attained their 12th birthday before the 1st January in the current year. Riders who have qualified for the (Horse of the Year Show/RIHS) M&M Working Hunter Pony Championship before the 1st January in the current year are not eligible. Ponies must not be asked to gallop. The three highest placed ponies, owned by an NPS member, in each class go forward to the final. Heavy Horses

We are a qualifier for the West of England Heavy Horse Championships 2025 sponsored by All 4 Wood Tree Services. The In Hand Champion and the winner of the Harness Class will be the qualifier. If either of the winners have already qualified at a previous show then if necessary the qualifier can go down to fourth place. If the top four horses have already qualified, then no qualifier can be nominated. The final will be held on the Gillingham and Shaftesbury Showground on Sunday 21st September 2025.

The Shire Horse Society offers a Spoon and rosette for the Best Shire Mare or Filly 2025. The offer of spoons and rosettes is subject to the Shire Horse Society special conditions of offer.

Each exhibitor will receive an allowance of £40 per horse.

The NPS/PICTON STUD Novice Ridden National Championship (MM-NR)
Open to pure bred registered M&M stallions, mares and geldings four years old or over. A pony is not eligible to compete if, before 1st January in the current year, it has done any of the following:
i. Won an open affiliated mixed M&M Ridden class
ii. Qualified for Horse of the Year Show, LIHS or RIHS Open M&M Ridden classes
iii. Qualified for the M&M Novice or Intermediate Ridden final at the NPS Summer Championship show (N.B. Ponies can compete as novices in this competition for two consecutive years provided they do not submit an entry to the final in the first year).
iv. If a pony qualifies for Horse of the Year Show, LIHS or RIHS in its second year it is immediately de-noviced and cannot compete in the Picton Final.
Ponies must be shown in a snaffle bit.

Veterans

Open to members and non-members. All competitors and grooms must adhere to VHS Rules in all circumstances. Failure to do so may result in immediate disqualification.

VHS Regional Final qualification. All competitors placed 1st to 4th in each Area Qualifier class will qualify for the corresponding class at VHS Regional Finals. Members must carry their card in the ring at all times and have their showing card signed by the judge as proof of qualification. Non-members will receive a red qualification card which can be exchanged for signed showing card when applying for VHS membership, this MUST be done within 21 days of qualification. It is the competitors’ responsibility to present their Showing card to the judge.

Regional Finals are open to members only.

All competitors are eligible to enter open classes at the National Veteran Championships,

Description:

This class is a qualifier for: Tattersalls RoR OPEN In Hand Showing Series Final. The first three go forward to the final at The Jockey Club RoR National Championships at Aintree equestrian Centre in August 2026.
RoR eligibility: Open to GB raced horses and horses that have raced abroad or been in training. Horses must have RoR Competition Membership and handlers to be 15 years old on the 1 January of the current year. For horses three years and over, fillies, mares and geldings.
Additional ROR Rules
- Handlers must wear the current approved safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap.
- Racing injuries and blemishes are ignored. Horses do not need to be shod to compete in the RoR Open In Hand class. Horses can be shown in a bitless/In hand bridle.

Class: 663 Tattersalls RoR AMATEUR Ridden Show Series Qualifier

Description:

This class is a qualifier for: Tattersalls RoR AMATEUR Ridden Showing Series Final.

RoR eligibility: Open to GB raced horses and horses that have raced abroad or been in training. Horses must have and have current RoR competition membership. Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1 January of the current year. For horses four years old and over mares and geldings owned, produced and ridden by an Amateur.
Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 4yrs and over, mares and geldings, owned, produced and ridden by an Amateur. Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1st January 2025. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, Pelham or simple double bridle with a plain cavesson noseband. Horses should be plaited. Racing injuries and blemishes ARE IGNORED in this series.
The Series is open to AMATEUR riders only – those employed in racing will be allowed to compete. Class will be judged under ‘riding horse’ format without ‘type’ being taken into consideration.
The Judge will not ride in the qualifiers but will ride in the Final.
Competitors/handlers/grooms must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap.
The first three go forward to the final at the Hickstead Derby Meeting June 2026.
Prizes – RoR rosettes 1st –4th plus Tattersalls RoR official merchandise voucher 1st £20, 2nd £10, 3rd £5, Highest placed Veteran (15+) £10.
For qualifiers held prior to July 31st, 2025, the winner will qualify for the Tattersalls RoR Amateur Ridden Show Series Special at the Jockey Club RoR National Championships on August 23rd 2025. Highest Placed Veteran qualifies for the RoR Ridden Veteran Final on the same day.
Amateur definition:
The rules are as in the rulebook with the following addition that an amateur may not show a horse owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm. In addition, a person classed as an amateur must not be supported by a company in any way or act as brand ambassador whether financially or in-kind. An amateur is a person who for the purpose of RoR classes does not/has not during the current season or previous season:
Engage (d) in breeding, livery, buying or selling, dealing or hiring horses in a commercial capacity. Horses must not have been stabled at or reside in a Professional Producer's/Trainer's yard from January 1st, 2024. Riders must not have ridden any animals produced by a Professional/Trainer in the current or previous season. Horses and riders must not receive any help from a Professional Producer/Trainer at a SHOW in the current season. A rider who has ridden for a Professional/Producer Trainer in the current or previous season must not have ridden horses at a show. Any breaches of this ruling will be taken seriously and will result in disqualification from future classes
