Hanging Basket & Decorative Pot Competition

Each entrant will be allocated an area 4’ square for the pot and facilities will be provided for hanging the basket above. Exhibitors are required to stage their exhibit in their own 12” hanging basket and a matching 12” terrace pot in terracotta or like material, planted with suitable summer material, to complement each other.

There are two classes open to all Primary Schools across Kent any clubs that include primary aged pupils. These are great opportunities for your school or club to show what you can produce. Your exhibit will display the young peoples work as part of the Garden Life area of the Kent Agricultural Show.

Garden Life

Class: 3 Wheel Barrow Competition

Description:

Fill the wheelbarrow with a stunning display of plants to suit the carnival theme.

This class is open to all Primary Schools across Kent, any clubs that include primary aged pupils. These are great opportunities for your school or club to show what you can produce. Your exhibit will display the young peoples work as part of the Garden Life area of the Kent Agricultural Show.

Class entry is free.

Rules – Each exhibit will be judged using the criteria below and will follow your design brief and description. The judges’ decision is final. The winners will be awarded a rosette and an award card. (Each entry will be awarded a rosette for taking part).

Design Brief-
·You are supplied with a wheelbarrow and potting compost to fill the barrow.
·How you choose to arrange your plants is up to you and your team.
·The wheelbarrows will be displayed on a plinth, so your School/Club name can be displayed in front of the barrow.
·Your description should be clearly part of your exhibit.
· The display must only fill the wheelbarrow and the plinth, not overflowing onto the floor.

It should focus on-
·Your choice of theme is appropriate to the age of your group.
·Your plants are healthy and well cared for.
·The plant list is inclusive and correct.
·50% of the marks are for the description of your theme (carnival), which shows that some of your young people have written part of it. Your description needs to include a title and highlight influences from the carnival theme. Please keep to 500 words maximum.

Class: 4 Scarecrow

Description:

Build a freestanding scarecrow or one that can be easily attached to a fence post.

This class is open to all Primary Schools across Kent, any clubs that include primary aged pupils. These are great opportunities for your school or club to show what you can produce. Your exhibit will display the young peoples work as part of the Garden Life area of the Kent Agricultural Show.

Class entry is free.

·Give your scarecrow a name and include the name of your school or club.
·You can choose to use any material in your construction, but eco-friendly materials would be preferred.

·Your choice of theme is appropriate to the age of your group.
·Your description should include why you chose this theme. Limit this to 500 words maximum.
·Your description clearly is the work of several people.
·50% of the marks are for the description of your theme (carnival), which shows that some of your young people have written part of it. Your description needs to include a title and highlight influences from the carnival theme. Please keep to 500 words maximum.
