Horses

Connemara, Dales, Fell, Highland, New Forest. Mountain and Moorland Ponies are restricted to the heights laid down by their respective breed societies and must be registered in the main body of the stud books of their respective breeds. All stallions and colts, two years or over must be in possession of a stallion license. All stallions and colts three years and over must be shown bitted and handled by persons who have attained their 14th birthday by 1st January in the current year.

Only licensed Stallions are eligible for entry in to Stallion classes. In-hand Stallions 3 years and over are advised to display a Stallion bridal badge. Children under 14 years old may not show colts (excluding foals) or entire males in Young Handler classes.

Open to any height or type of horse or pony, yearling, two years and three years old.

Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 4yrs and over, mares and geldings, owned, produced and ridden by an Amateur. Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1st January of the calendar year holding the classes. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, Pelham or simple double bridle with a plain cavesson noseband. Horses should be plaited.
The Series is open to AMATEUR riders only – those employed in racing will be allowed to compete. Class will be judged under ‘riding horse’ format without ‘type’ being taken into consideration.  Racing injuries and blemishes ARE IGNORED in this series. The Judge will not ride at the qualifiers but will ride in the Final. Competitors/handlers/grooms must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. The first three go forward to the final at the Hickstead Derby Meeting, June 2025. RoR rosettes 1st – 4th and a RoR branded prize to the winner to be redeemed from the RoR Office. The winner also qualifies for the Tattersalls RoR Amateur Ridden Show Series Special at the Jockey Club RoR National Championships at Aintree on 24th August 2024. A branded prize will be presented to the highest placed Veteran horse (15+) and qualification to the RoR Ridden Veteran Final also at Aintree on 24th August 2024. Prize to be redeemed from the RoR Office.

Thoroughbred mare or gelding, 4years old or over, any height. Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1st January 2024. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, Pelham or simple double bridle with a plain cavasson noseband. Horses should be plaited. The first THREE go forward to the championship at Hickstead in June 2025. All entries MUST be competition registered with the RoR and include their competition registration number on entry form and have RACED in GB. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force’. Please be aware that the show will split the class on the horse’s last run in a race (NH or Flat) or will provide 2 ride judges should the entries exceed 20. Please mark your entry form accordingly. Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. Racing injuries and blemishes will NOT be ignored in this series
RoR rosettes 1st – 4th and a RoR branded prize to the winner to be redeemed from the RoR Office. The winner also qualifies for the Tattersalls RoR Open Ridden Show Series Special at the RoR National Championships 2025 at Aintree
Veteran prize (15+) - a RoR branded prize to be redeemed from RoR office and qualification for the Veteran Final at the RoR National Championships 2025 at Aintree.

Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 3yrs and over, mares, fillies and geldings. Handlers must be 15 years or over on the 1st January of the calendar year holding the class. Horses do not need to be shod to compete in the RoR Open In-Hand class. Horses can be shown in a bitless/In-Hand Bridle. Blemishes caused through racing will be ignored.

To be judged on the presentation and competence of the handler. Not the animal that is being shown. Mares and Geldings only.

No rider under the age of 15 years on 1st January in the year of the show is eligible to ride in these classes. The judge will make every effort to ride all exhibits in these classes.

Open to both Riding Pony and M and M type. Mare or Gelding 4 years old and over. Not exceeding 122cm. Riders not to have attained their 8th Birthday before show day. Lead reins must only be fixed to the noseband on which it must remain while the pony is in the ring. No child under 3 years may compete. Ponies to be shown in snaffle bridles only. Please note this class will be split at the judges discretion into M and M type and RP type if entries warrant.

Open to both Riding Pony and M and M type. Mare or Gelding 4 years old and over. Not exceeding 128cm. Riders not to have attained their 10th Birthday before show day. No cantering allowed except in individual performances. Ponies must leave the ring at walk or trot. Ponies to be shown in snaffle bridles only. Please note this class will be split at the judges discretion into M and M type and RP type if entries warrant.

Rider not to have attained their 12th birthday before 1st January in the current year. Maximum height of fences 75cm.

Rider must be the correct age for the animal they ride. Maximum height of fences 1m 05cms.

Not having won a first prize value of £25 or a total of £100 prize money in any Working Hunter class. Height of fences will not exceed 80cm.

Grade A Show Jumpers and Advanced Eventers are not eligible to compete. To be judged 60% jumping performance. 40% Ride and Conformation. Fences minimum of 8, maximum of 12 and a maximum height of 95cm at the judges discretion.

Not to have won a first prize and £10.00 or more in any open intermediate SRT/SH type class before 1st January in current year.

To be owned by an exhibitor resident in the Axe Vale, Cotley or East Devon Countries. See General Regulation 2 in the schedule for details.

Will be judged 50% horse, 30% harness, 20% style. £50 Appearance money given by Honiton and District Agricultural Association. The Heavy Horse in Agricultural Harness preliminary judging of this class will take place in the Heavy Horse Lines, winners will then be paraded in the Underdown Ring. Competitors will be advised of the time of preliminary judging by the Heavy Horse Steward on the day.

Driven to a suitable agricultural or trade vehicle. Class will be split into Agricultural and Trade Sections if entries warrant. Please include a description of vehicle on entry form. The Honiton and District Agricultural Association will give £100 appearance.

Open to all Horses and Ponies, 4 years old and over. NO SHOW DRIVE. Concours D'elegance - This will run concurrently with the Private Driving Class. The Honiton and District Agricultural Association donate £40 appearance money.

Registered in the stud books of Welsh A and B, Dartmoor, Exmoor and Shetland. Rider any age.

In Lead Rein WSP classes the judges will be looking for a pony suitable for a child to begin their future in Working Sports Pony Classes. Criteria The Leader must be 16 years old or over and my only lead one pony in a class. The rein MUST go directly from the bit to the rider's hand, with no extra aids or attachments to or on the saddle. The Lead Rein must be affixed to the noseband on which it must remain while the pony is in the ring. Whilst in the ring ponies must always be let by the Leader. The Leader should lead on the near side with the lead rein in the left hand. Riders - Hats in accordance with BSPS Rules, Tweed Jackets, beige or cream jodphurs, shirt, tie, boots and gloves. No buttonholes. Leaders - Country attire, Gentlemen Trilby Hats or Caps, Ladies modest hats. Qualifiers for London International Horse Show. The 1st placed pony will qualify from classes 257 and 258. Competitors do not need to be BSPS members to enter these classes, but must join within 7 days if they wish to take up qualification.

Mare or Gelding, 4 years and over, Mountain and Moorland registered ponies not exceeding 128cms. Ridden by a child to have attained their 6th birthday on the 1st January in the current year and not to have attained their 12th birthday by 1st January in the current year. Any suitable snaffle bridle. Ponies to be shown unplaited. In First Ridden WSP classes the judges will be looking for a pony suitable for a child to begin their future in Working Sports Pony Classes. Martingales are permitted - Riders - Hats in accordance with BSPS Rules, Tweed Jackets, beige or cream jodphurs, shirt, tie, boots and gloves. Body protectors are compulsory in this class. No buttonholes. Qualifiers for London International Horse Show. The 1st placed pony will qualify from classes 257 and 258. Competitors do not need to be BSPS members to enter these classes, but must join within 7 days if they wish to take up the qualification.

Mare or Gelding 4 years old and over, exceeding 148cms, but not exceeding 160cms. The highest unqualified horse placed in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Hack Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. In addition, the two highest unqualified placed horses will qualify for the Rising Star Associate finals at the BSHA National Championships Show in September.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, exceeding 148cms and not exceeding 158cms. The highest unqualified horse placed in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Supreme Small Riding Horse Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. In addition, the two highest unqualified placed horses will qualify for the Rising Star Associate finals at the BSHA National Championships Show in September.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, exceeding 158cms. The highest unqualified horse placed in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Large Riding Horse Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. In addition, the two highest unqualified placed horses will qualify for the Rising Star Associate finals at the BSHA National Championships Show in September.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over exceeding 148cms, but not exceeding 155cms, capable of carrying up to 14 stone. The highest unqualified horse placed in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Lightweight Cob Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. In addition, the two highest unqualified placed horses will qualify for the Rising Star Associate finals at the BSHA National Championships Show in September.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, exceeding 148cms, but not exceeding 155cms, capable of carrying more than 14 stone. The highest unqualified horse placed in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Heavyweight Cob Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. In addition, the two highest unqualified placed horses will qualify for the Rising Star Associate finals at the BSHA National Championships Show in September.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, exceeding 155cms - to be judged as Cobs. Judges must pay particular attention to t type (i.e short legged animals of COB type). To be shown hogged. The highest unqualified horse placed in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Maxi Cob Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. In addition, the two highest unqualified placed horses will qualify for the Rising Star Associate finals at the BSHA National Championships Show in September.
