Horses

Connemara, Dales, Fell, Highland, New Forest. Mountain and Moorland Ponies are restricted to the heights laid down by their respective breed societies and must be registered in the main body of the stud books of their respective breeds. All stallions and colts, two years or over must be in possession of a stallion license. All stallions and colts three years and over must be shown bitted and handled by persons who have attained their 14th birthday by 1st January in the current year.

Only licensed Stallions are eligible for entry in to Stallion classes. In-hand Stallions 3 years and over are advised to display a Stallion bridal badge. Children under 14 years old may not show colts (excluding foals) or entire males in Young Handler classes.

Open to any height or type of horse or pony, yearling, two years and three years old.

Open to Non Native type, any height, any age.

Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 4yrs and over, mares and geldings, owned, produced and ridden by an Amateur. Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1st January 2026. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, Pelham or simple double bridle with a plain cavesson noseband. Horses should be plaited.
The Series is open to AMATEUR riders only – those employed in racing will be allowed to compete. Class will be judged under ‘riding horse’ format without ‘type’ being taken into consideration.  Racing injuries and blemishes ARE IGNORED in this series. The Judge will not ride in the qualifiers but will ride in the Final. Competitors/handlers/grooms must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. The first three go forward to the final at the Hickstead Derby Meeting, June 2027. RoR rosettes 1st – 4th plus Tattersalls RoR merchandise voucher 1st £20, 2nd £10, 3rd £5, Highest placed Veteran (15+) £10. The winner also qualifies for the Tattersalls RoR Amateur Ridden Special at the Jockey Club RoR National Championships in August 2027. Highest Placed Veteran qualifies for the RoR Ridden Veteran Final on the same date - August 2027.

Open to RoR competition registered horses, 4yrs and over, mares and geldings,
Thoroughbred mare or gelding, 4years old or over, any height. Riders must be 15 years or over by January 1st 2026. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, Pelham or simple double bridle with a plain cavesson noseband. Horses should be plaited.
The first THREE go forward to the championship at Hickstead in June 2027
All entries MUST be competition registered with the RoR and include their competition registration number on entry form and have RACED in GB. All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force’. Please be aware that the show will split the class on the horse’s last run in a race (NH or Flat) or will provide 2 ride judges should the entries exceed 20. Please mark your entry form accordingly. Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. Racing injuries and blemishes will NOT be ignored in this series

For qualifiers held before July 31st, 2026, the winner qualifies for the Tattersalls RoR Open Ridden Special at the Jockey Club RoR National Championships in August 2026. The Highest Placed Veteran qualifies for the RoR Ridden Veteran Final on the same day.

Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 3yrs and over, mares, fillies and geldings. Handlers must be 15 years or over on the 1st January of the calendar year holding the class. Horses do not need to be shod to compete in the RoR Open In-Hand class. Horses can be shown in a bitless/In-Hand Bridle. Blemishes caused through racing will be ignored.

To be judged on the presentation and competence of the handler. Not the animal that is being shown. Mares and Geldings only.

Children Under 14 - Mounted, Lead Rein or In Hand. Judging will focus on creativity and effort. Costumes must not restrict the ponies movement or vision and riders must wear current standard riding hat. Special Rosettes to all entrants.

No rider under the age of 15 years on 1st January in the year of the show is eligible to ride in these classes. The judge will make every effort to ride all exhibits in these classes.

Open to both Riding Pony and M and M type. Mare or Gelding 4 years old and over. Not exceeding 122cm. Riders not to have attained their 8th Birthday before show day. Lead reins must only be fixed to the noseband on which it must remain while the pony is in the ring. No child under 3 years may compete. Ponies to be shown in snaffle bridles only. Please note this class will be split at the judges discretion into M and M type and RP type if entries warrant.

Open to both Riding Pony and M and M type. Mare or Gelding 4 years old and over. Not exceeding 128cm. Riders not to have attained their 10th Birthday before show day. No cantering allowed except in individual performances. Ponies must leave the ring at walk or trot. Ponies to be shown in snaffle bridles only. Please note this class will be split at the judges discretion into M and M type and RP type if entries warrant.

Rider not to have attained their 12th birthday before 1st January in the current year. Maximum height of fences 70cm.

Rider must be the correct age for the animal they ride. Maximum height of fences 80cms.

Open ONLY to Hunters, mare or gelding, 4 years old and over exceeding 148cm (14.2hh approx.) Any horse which is registered / previously registered as a Grade A showjumper, Advanced Eventer, or above, on 1st January of the current year, is not eligible. Rider to be 15yrs or over. Height of fences: minimum 3’0”, maximum 3’3”, maximum spread 3’3”. Please note, the height of the fences may be raised at the final at the discretion of the Course builder/ BSHA Representative. A Rider may ride up to two Horses in the jumping phase only and then must select one Horse to take through to the Individual Show & Conformation stage. No change of Rider is allowed. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Working Hunter Type Supreme Final at the LIHS in December QUALIFICATION WILL BE CONFIRMED BY EMAIL ONCE FULL LIHS QUALIFIED MEMBERSHIP & HORSE REGISTRATION IS COMPLETED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF QUALIFICATION. Please note LIHS Qualifier-Eligible membership must be in place before entering any BSHA LIHS qualifying class. In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Rising Star Working Hunter final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. Associate Rising Star Qualification Cards will be awarded in the ring.

Open ONLY to Hacks, Cobs, Maxi Cobs and Riding Horses, mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, exceeding 148cms. Any horse which is Grade B showjumper, Intermediate Eventer, or above on the 1st January of the current year, is not eligible. Rider to be 15yrs or over. Height of fences: minimum 2’6”, maximum 2’9”, maximum spread 2’9”. Please note the height of the fences may be raised at the final at the discretion of the Course builder/ BSHA Representative. A Rider may ride up to two Horses in the jumping phase only and then must select one Horse to take through to the Individual Show & Conformation stage. No change of Rider is allowed. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Working Show Horse Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. Not having won a first prize value of £25 or a total of £100 prize money in any Working Hunter class. Height of fences will not exceed 80cm.

Grade A Show Jumpers and Advanced Eventers are not eligible to compete. To be judged 60% jumping performance. 40% Ride and Conformation. Fences minimum of 8, maximum of 12 and a maximum height of 95cm at the judges discretion.

Not to have won a first prize and £10.00 or more in any open intermediate SRT/SH type class before 1st January in current year.

To be owned by an exhibitor resident in the Axe Vale, Cotley or East Devon Countries. See General Regulation 2 in the schedule for details.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, (Lightweight exceeding 158cms, Small Hunter exceeding 148cms, but not exceeding 158cms). Capable of carrying up to 79.5kgs (12 stone 7lbs). Rider to be 15yrs or over. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Small/Lightweight Hunter Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. QUALIFICATION WILL BE CONFIRMED BY EMAIL ONCE FULL LIHS QUALIFIED MEMBERSHIP & HORSE REGISTRATION IS COMPLETED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF QUALIFICATION. Please note LIHS Qualifier-Eligible membership must be in place before entering any BSHA LIHS qualifying class. In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Rising Star Hunter final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. Associate Rising Star Qualification Cards will be awarded in the ring.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 158cms. Capable of carrying over 89kgs (14 stone). Rider to be 15yrs or over. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Middleweight/Heavyweight Hunter Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. QUALIFICATION WILL BE CONFIRMED BY EMAIL ONCE FULL LIHS QUALIFIED MEMBERSHIP & HORSE REGISTRATION IS COMPLETED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF QUALIFICATION. Please note LIHS Qualifier-Eligible membership must be in place before entering any BSHA LIHS qualifying class. In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Rising Star Hunter final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. Associate Rising Star Qualification Cards will be awarded in the ring.

Will be judged 50% horse, 30% harness, 20% style. £50 Appearance money given by Honiton and District Agricultural Association. The Heavy Horse in Agricultural Harness preliminary judging of this class will take place in the Heavy Horse Lines, winners will then be paraded in the Underdown Ring. Competitors will be advised of the time of preliminary judging by the Heavy Horse Steward on the day.

Driven to a suitable agricultural or trade vehicle. Class will be split into Agricultural and Trade Sections if entries warrant. Please include a description of vehicle on entry form. The Honiton and District Agricultural Association will give £100 appearance.

Open to all Horses and Ponies, 4 years old and over. NO SHOW DRIVE. Concours D'elegance - This will run concurrently with the Open Driving Class. The Honiton and District Agricultural Association donate £40 appearance money.

Registered in the stud books of Welsh A and B, Dartmoor, Exmoor and Shetland. Rider any age.
