Spurs may be worn by riders under 16 years old at judges discretion. Baton whips are recommended for the jumping phase. Horses to be shown true to type (eg plaited, hogged or natural state depending on horse type) Horses can wear boots for the jumping phase but to be removed for the show phase, martingales are ok to wear for both phases.

RIDDEN HUNTERS
ROYAL INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW CLASSES – GENERAL RULES
These classes are qualifiers for The Agria Royal International Horse Show. The two highest placed horses will qualify, no horse lower than 2nd will qualify. In working hunter classes the two highest placed horses from each class will go through to the Working Hunter Championship and all these four horses will qualify for RIHS if they have not already done so. RIHS Qualification will not pass down the line beyond the aforementioned placings. In the Working Hunter Championship judges must place all horses to determine qualification.
Only horses registered with SHB (GB) and who are also registered on the current year’s Show Hunter Register are eligible to enter in Qualifying Classes for RIHS Ridden and Working Hunter Championships and the Show Hunter Registration Number must be quoted on entries. Any horse that is entered for a Qualifying Class without first being on the Show Hunter Register cannot subsequently be registered and therefore will not be eligible for entry in that class on the day and will be disqualified if forward.
DAY TICKETS - Competitors may compete on a day ticket and may have a maximum of two Day Tickets per season. Each day ticket is valid for the entirety of the show (this covers all SHB(GB) Classes that require a membership and registration) and it covers owner and rider membership together with horse registration/over-stamp for that show. As a qualifying class for RIHS in order for the qualification to be valid, application for full owner/rider membership and horse registration/ over-stamp must be received in the SHB(GB) office within 14 days.
These classes are also qualifying classes for the SHB(GB) SUPREME RIDDEN HUNTER CHAMPIONSHIP to be held at The National Supreme Hunter Championship 11th-13th August 2026. Horses placed 1st to 3rd in each section will qualify.

SSADL Home Produced Ridden qualifiers comprising of The London International Horse Show 1st Round, Members Open Challenges, Members M & M Challenges, Members Lead Rein/First Ridden Challenges, Members Foreign Breeds Challenges, The Senior of the Year Championship. Open to both Members and Non Members. All competitors should acquaint themselves with the rules of the SSADL. They can be found at www.seniorshowinganddressage.co.uk . Members are required to have their Qualification cards in the ring at the time of presentation which will be signed by the Judge, non-members must register within 10 days to be eligible for Challenge Finals to be held at SSADL National Championship Show 19th and 20th September 2026.
SSADL Home Produced Qualifiers are OPEN to both Members and Non-Members of SSADL No Spurs with the exception to adult side saddle riders, who are allowed a Spur Band, Dummy or Blunt Spur. No Galloping or canter extensions, For Riders/Handlers- No Wearing of Face/Body Jewellery with the exception to the earring used by competitors with health problems. Foals are NOT permitted SSADL Classes. For In-Hand Classes- Minimum age of handler = 11 years old. First Ridden ponies/riders will be asked after the initial walk round to come into the centre of the ring. First Ridden Competitors will only canter in their individual shows. The picture created should represent history, perhaps depicting a film, painting or period drama. Any historical/traditional period may be portrayed up to the 1950's. Costume, tack, rider and horse/pony, including manners, will be taken into consideration.
First, second and third placed horses/ponies not already qualified in eligible classes will qualify for the Champion of Britain Title classes to be held at Onley Equestrian Centre, Rugby, Warwickshire on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th September 2026. RESCUE HORSE OR PONY RIDDEN / IN HAND
Classes are open to rescued horses and ponies from all Animal Rescue Charities and Organisations. The Charity/Organisation MUST be stated within the story.
Ridden class is open to all breeds and sizes 4 years old and over. In hand class is open to all breeds, sizes and ages.
All entries must provide a brief story of the circumstances of re-homing and the success leading them to be shown in this class. A before and after photo ideally should accompany the story. All stories must be a maximum of 500 words, a maximum of 4 photographs and emailed to horse@heathfieldshow.org. The story will be published through Heathfield Agricultural Show social media pages. By entering this class you hereby give permission for the story to be published.
Horses and ponies will be judged on their show, their performance and their history and rescue journey that will be read out to the public during the competition.
Lead Rein competitors are allowed.
