In the event of 30 or more starters the class will be split and two sets of prize money awarded. Horses (or ponies in pony competitions) may compete in one section only.

Foxhunter:

(a) For registered horses in Grade C that have not won a total of 700 points. Four double clears will qualify – in accordance with rule 310.6

(b) For all registered horses born on or after 1 January 2018, irrespective of points. Horses will be eligible for double clear qualification to attend second rounds providing they reach the age of seven years or under in the same calendar year as the Foxhunter Final - in accordance with rule 310.6 Four double clears will qualify. Four double clears will qualify for the Senior Foxhunter Second Rounds.

Qualifying period: The Senior Foxhunter Second Round qualifying period 1st May – 30th April (subject to revision). Those horses that have qualified for the Senior Foxhunter Championship in 2024 are not eligible for qualification to the 2025 Championship.

If combined with an open: In the event of 30 or more starters the class will be split with two sets of prize money.

Qualifies for: The British Show Jumping National Championships.

Numbers to qualify: Two double clears to qualify to the final. Double clear qualifications will not be obtained from one round competitions (e.g. Table A4 or Table A (1 Round))

Limited to 30 Entries - Drawn Order
Six, eight or ten obstacles, which are progressively more difficult. No combination obstacles are allowed. The progressive difficulty is not solely due to the height and spread of the obstacles but also to the difficulty of the track. Points are awarded as follows:
One point for obstacle No 1 cleared, two points for No 2, three points for No 3 etc, with a total of 21,36 or 55 points. No point is awarded for an obstacle knocked down. Faults other than knock-downs are penalized as for Table A and any of these faults, including time faults are converted into points and deducted from any jumping points scored.
In the event of equality of points for first place, there will be a jump-off against the clock over a shortened course, over obstacles that may be increased in height and/or spread. The obstacles in the jump-off must be jumped in the same order as in the first round and retain their respective points allotted in the first round.
This competition may also take place directly against the clock.
For the last obstacle of the course, an alternative obstacle may be provided, of which one part may be designated the Joker. The Joker must be more difficult than the alternative obstacle and carry double points. If the Joker is knocked down, the points must be deducted from the total.

Rule 285. Table A. Speed 325mpm. Start Height 1.20m. DRAWN ORDER
For registered horses to be ridden by Adult, Associate or Junior Members.
To be jumped over a maximum of five rounds. When the competitor has any fault, they leave the arena.
Winner or winners are those with the most points. Equal points mean equal placings.
Scoring-Jumping fence clear: Two points Knocking down fence: One point Refusal: Nil points
The competition finishes either: When all competitors have faulted or at the end of the fifth round. Maximum of 10 starters and maximum of one horse per rider.

Criteria
The Leader must be 16 years old or over and may only lead one pony in a class.
The rein MUST go directly from the bit to the rider’s hand, with no extra aids or attachments to or on the saddle.
Handles on saddles are permitted but the reins must not be attached to the handle or to the saddle. The Lead Rein must be affixed to the noseband on which it must remain while the pony is in the ring.
Whilst in the ring ponies must always be led by the leader.
The Leader must lead on the near side with the lead rein in the left hand.
RIDERS - Hats in accordance with BSPS Rules, Tweed Jackets, Beige or cream jodhpurs, Shirt, tie, boots and gloves.
No Buttonholes
LEADERS Country attire, Gentlemen Trilby Hats or Caps, Ladies modest hats.

Method of Judging
Ponies will enter the ring at the walk, they may be trotted altogether at the Judges’ discretion. They will be pulled into line and asked to perform an individual test around obstacles including jumping a maximum of three small upright fences not exceeding 30cms. No spread fences. Water will not be included. Ponies will not be asked to walk on artificial material e.g. plastic sheeting during the test. Riders will not be asked to dismount.
Judges will penalise refusals, knockdowns or taking the wrong course at their discretion.
A stride or two of canter over the fences will not be penalised.
There will be NO conformation marks. Ponies must be shown unplaited and in accordance with their breed standards.

Mare or Gelding, 4 years old and over, For registered Mountain and Moorland ponies and non-registered Mountain and Moorland type ponies not exceeding 128 cm. Ridden by a child to have attained their 6th birthday on the 1st January in the current year and not to have attained their 12th birthday by 1st January in the current year. Any suitable snaffle bridle. Ponies to be shown unplaited.

In First Ridden WSP classes the Judges will be looking for a pony suitable for a child to begin their future in Working Sports Pony classes. Ponies will be shown unplaited.

Exhibitors will walk, trot and canter, including change of rein and canter on the left rein before coming back to walk. No galloping on the go round. In the 128cm Performance Pony Class, NO CANTERING on the go round. NO PULL IN. In the event of a tie performance marks take precedence.

Exhibitors will perform an individual display, this must include a walk, trot and canter on both reins, a free walk on a long rein, canter circle, extension at canter (not a gallop) on one rein, and a halt. Canter transitions must be executed on the straight, (not at a corner)
No stripping, exhibitors will be asked to walk away and trot back to the judge before commencing their display. Any suitable bridle, including a Micklem bridle, flash or grackle, nosebands etc, and a correctly fitted running martingale can be used. Coloured or plain brow bands can be used. Bit-less bridles and Running Gags are not permitted.

Open ONLY to Hunters, mare or gelding 4 years old and over exceeding 148cm (14.2hh approx.)
Any horse which is registered / previously registered as a Grade A Showjumper, Advanced Eventer, or above as at 1st January of the current year, is not eligible. Rider to be 15years or over. Height of fences: minimum 3’0”, maximum 3’3”, maximum spread 3’3”. Please note the height of the fences may be raised at the final at the discretion of the Course Builder/ BSHA Representative. A rider may ride up to two Horses in the jumping phase only and then must select one Horse to take through to the Individual Show & Conformation stage. No change of rider is allowed.
The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Working Hunter Type Supreme Final at the LIHS in December.

Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, Mare or gelding 4yrs old, any height.
Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1st January 2025. Horses to be ridden in any suitable
bridle and should be plaited. All entries must have current RoR Competition Registered. Racing
injuries and blemishes ARE IGNORED in this series.
The first three go forward to the final at The Jockey Club RoR National Championships,
Aintree, August 23rd 2025.
Highest placed Veteran (15+) £10.
The Highest Placed Veteran also qualifies for the Tattersalls RoR Ridden Veteran Show final at
the Jockey Club RoR National Championships on August 23rd 2025.
The Judge will NOT ride. Horses may be stripped for conformation at the discretion of the
judge. Competitors must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap. All those entering
and/or participating in RoR classes agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and
Regulations from time to time in force. The class to be judged 50% jumping, 20% Style while
jumping and performance and 30% awarded for show, manners and suitability to be retrained.
PHASE 1
Jumping to be judged:
8 rustic jumps 70cm to 80cm with a maximum spread of 75cm.
The following points to be deducted at the end of each jumping round:
10 points to be deducted for a knock down, 15 points to be deducted for a refusal, 20 points for
second refusal. Elimination for third refusal or fall or Error of Course.
PHASE 2
Class returns without boots and judged for an individual show/conformation. (In some classes,
at the judge’s discretion, horses might be asked to do a ‘show’ following their jumping without
leaving the ring. This is often the case with a large number in the class)
Each horse to complete an individual show of no longer than 1 ½ minutes. Show to include the
following movements: walk, trot, canter showing change of leg, extended canter (gallop) halt
and stand, walk off on long rein. Total marks out of 30% for Show, manners and suitability to be
retrained. Fences for the final at Aintree can be up to a maximum of 85cm with a spread of 80cm

Open ONLY to Hacks, Cobs, Maxi Cobs and Riding Horses, mare or gelding 4 years old and over, exceeding 148cms. Any horse which is a Grade B showjumper, Intermediate Eventer, or above as at 1st January of the current year, is not eligible Rider to be 15 years or over.
Height of fences: minimum 2’6”, maximum 2’9”, maximum spread 2’9”, Please note the height of the fences may be raised at the final at the discretion of the Course Builder / BSHA Representative.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 148cms. Open to ALL types, rider to be aged 15 - 25 years. This is a flat class to be judged solely on performance, there will be no conformation marks awarded, and exhibits will not be stripped. The highest unqualified horse placed in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Style & Performance Over 25 Supreme Final at the LIHS in December.

The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Small/Lightweight Hunter Supreme Final at the LIHS in December.

BSHA Open Hunters: Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 158cms. Capable of carrying up to 79.5kgs (12 stone 7lbs) for LW, 79.5kg (12stone 7lbs) and not exceeding 89kgs (14 stone) for MW & over 89kgs (14 stone) for HW. The highest placed unqualified prize winner in the top 5 will qualify to compete in the BSHA Supreme of the Year Final. The Finals will be held at the BSHA National Championship Shows in September 2025.

BSHA Amateur Hunters: Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 158cms. Capable of carrying up to 79.5kgs (12 stone 7lbs) for LW, 79.5kg (12stone 7lbs) and not exceeding 89kgs (14 stone) for MW & over 89kgs (14 stone) for HW. To be ridden by an Amateur, please see BSHA Rule Book, rule 6 for Amateur definition.

BSHA Novice Hunters: Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 158cms. Capable of carrying up to 79.5kgs (12 stone 7lbs) for LW, 79.5kg (12stone 7lbs) and not exceeding 89kgs (14 stone) for MW & over 89kgs (14 stone) for HW. Not to have won a first prize of £25 or more, or more than a total of £150 (including any Championship Prize Money) in any showing classes excluding Working Show Horses, Best Trained, Pairs, Side Saddle, or In-Hand classes that were Affiliated to the Association, at home or abroad, prior to 1st January in the current year. Winnings as a 4-year-old are exempt, unless that 4-year-old has won an Open Ridden class with a first prize of £25 or more. If the category has changed from a Riding Horse to a Hunter or vice versa, it may not revert back to a Novice. Snaffle bridles may be worn for Novice classes. Novice animals must be Registered with the Association or Exhibitors must have purchased a Day Ticket in order to compete in Novice classes. Animals which have been placed in the top five at either the Royal International Horse show or Horse of the Year Show in any OPEN ridden class, BSHA or otherwise, with the exception of the Search for a Star Finals, are ineligible to compete in Novice Hunter classes. Horses competing in Novice classes must be ridden by the judge before being asked to “strip” for conformation.

BSHA Small Hunter: Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 148cm (14.2hh approx) but not exceeding 158cm (15.2hh approx). The highest placed unqualified prize winners in the top three will qualify to compete in the BSHA Supreme of the Year Final. The Finals will be held at the BSHA National Championship Shows in September 2025.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 148cms, to carry a side saddle and to be ridden by a lady. Open to ALL types and to be judged on performance. There will be no conformation marks awarded in the class (exhibits will not be stripped).

Maxi Cob Type: Mare or gelding, 4 years old and over, exceeding 155cms – to be judged as Cobs. Rider to be 15 years or over. Judges must pay particular attention to type (i.e. short legged animals of COB type). TO be shown hogged. The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Maxi Supreme Final at the LIHS in December.

Mare or gelding, 4 years old or over, exceeding 148cm. Open to thoroughbred horses or Arab horses retired from race training. Rider to be 15 years or over. The highest placed unqualified in the top 5 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Racehorse to Show Horse Supreme Final at the LIHS in December. Open to all RoR and NR competition registered horses, 3yrs and over, fillies, mares and geldings. Handlers must be 15 years or over on the 1st January 2025.
Horses do not need to be shod to compete in the RoR Open In-Hand class. Horses can be shown in a bitless/In-Hand Bridle. Blemishes caused through racing will be ignored.
All RoR members entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force.
Handlers/grooms must wear a current safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap.

owned, produced and ridden by an Amateur. Riders must be 15 years or over on the 1st
January 2025. Horses should be ridden in a snaffle, Pelham or simple double bridle with a
plain cavesson noseband. Horses should be plaited. Racing injuries and blemishes ARE
IGNORED in this series.
The Series is open to AMATEUR riders only – those employed in racing will be allowed to
compete. Class will be judged under ‘riding horse’ format without ‘type’ being taken into
consideration. The Judge will not ride in the qualifiers but will ride in the Final.
Competitors/grooms must wear a safety/kite mark hard hat with a chinstrap.
The first three go forward to the final at the Hickstead Derby Meeting, June 22nd 2025.

The winner also qualifies for the Tattersalls RoR Amateur Ridden Show Series Special at the

Amateur definition:
The rules are as in the rulebook with the following addition that an amateur may not show a
horse owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm. In addition, a person classed
as amateur must not be supported by a company in any way or act as brand ambassador
whether financially or in-kind. An amateur is a person who for the purpose of RoR classes
does not/has not during the current season or previous season:
Engage(d) in breeding, livery, buying or selling, dealing or hiring horses in a commercial
capacity. Horses must not have been stabled at or reside in a Professional
Producer/Trainers yard from January 1st 2024. Riders must not have ridden any animals
produced by a Professional/Trainer in the current or previous season. Horses and riders
must not receive any help from a Professional Producer/Trainer at a SHOW in the current
season. A rider who has ridden for a Professional/Producer Trainer in the current or previous
season must not have ridden horses at a show. Any breaches of this ruling will be taken seriously and will result in disqualification from future classes.
