BSPS LIHS Heritage M&M Lead Rein and First Ridden Working Sports Pony
In Lead Rein and First Ridden WSP classes the Judges will be looking for a pony suitable for a child to begin their future in Working Sports Pony classes. Ponies must be shown unplaited.

The Leader must be 16 years old or over and may only lead one pony in a class. The rein MUST go directly from the bit to the rider’s hand, with no extra aids or attachments to or on the saddle. Handles on saddles are permitted but the reins must not be attached to the handle or to the saddle. The Lead Rein must be affixed to the noseband on which it must remain while the pony is in the ring. Whilst in the ring ponies must always be led by the Leader. The Leader must lead on the near side with the lead rein in the left hand.
RIDERS - Hats in accordance with BSPS Rules, Tweed Jackets, Beige or Cream Jodhpurs, Shirt, Tie, Boots and Gloves. No Buttonholes. Body protectors are compulsory in this class.
LEADERS Country attire, Gentlemen: Trilby Hats or Caps, Ladies: Modest Hats.

Ponies will enter the ring at the walk, they may be trotted altogether at the Judge’s discretion. The class will be judged by one judge. At the final the height of fences will remain at 85cm for class 8 and 95cm for class 9. The course will consist of a minimum of 10 fences, maximum of 12 fences.
Riders will enter the ring individually, and present their pony to the judge, who will assess the pony’s conformation, freedom of movement, (asking the rider to walk and trot back before commencing their jumping round) type and athleticism, awarding a mark out of 10.
The judges will award up to 30 marks for style, technique and athleticism whilst jumping.
At end of the jumping round the rider will gallop the pony down the long side of the ring, for which a mark out of 10 will be awarded
Riders will then canter, trot, walk and halt, demonstrating, manners, correct paces and training, for which a mark of 10 will be awarded.
A final mark of 10 will awarded for the style, position and effectiveness of the rider.

The highest placed pony not already qualified will qualify for the final providing the pony, owner and rider are registered with the BSPS within seven days. Riders can only qualify one pony in each class.

The following class is a qualifier for the Supreme In-Hand Semi Final at the National Pony Society Great British In-Hand Show, 13th September 2026 at Vale View Equestrian Centre. Which is a qualifier for Horse of the Year Show, NEC, 7th – 11th October 2026. The objective of the competition is to find the supreme light horse or pony in-hand champion of the year, irrespective of breed or type (excluding heavy horses).
The Champion horse or pony from the following classes will be eligible to compete in the Supreme In-Hand Semi Final, provided it has not already won a Supreme In-Hand qualifier in 2026.
• Youngstock/Competition Sports Horse Champion (Classes 20-21)
• In Hand M&M Champion (Classes 22-26)
If the Champion has already qualified for Horse of the Year Show 2026 or is ineligible, then the Reserve Champion may come forward to The NPS Great British In-Hand Show, provided it has not already qualified and is eligible. If both Champion and Reserve Champion have already qualified for Horse of the Year Show 2026 or are ineligible then the Semi-Final will not be represented at the NPS Great British In-Hand Show.
Foal champions and geldings four years old and over are not eligible to compete or eligible to qualify for Horse of the Year Show.
In the event of a horse/pony having been awarded more than one section Championship at this show, that horse/pony will represent both/all sections and the Semi-Final qualification will not pass down to the Reserve Champion in the 2nd and any subsequent sections.
There will be no direct entry into the Supreme In-Hand Championship Semi Final, all animals must be a section champion or reserve champion (as applicable).

The following class is a qualifier for the Supreme In-Hand Semi Final at the National Pony Society Great British In-Hand Show, 13th September 2026 at Vale View Equestrian Centre. Which is a qualifier for Horse of the Year Show, NEC, 7th – 11th October 2026. The objective of the competition is to find the supreme light horse or pony in-hand champion of the year, irrespective of breed or type (excluding heavy horses).
The Champion horse or pony from the following classes will be eligible to compete in the Supreme In-Hand Semi Final, provided it has not already won a Supreme In-Hand qualifier in 2026.
• Youngstock/Competition Sports Horse Champion (Classes 20-21)
• In Hand M&M Champion (Classes 22-26)
If the Champion has already qualified for Horse of the Year Show 2026 or is ineligible, then the Reserve Champion may come forward to The NPS Great British In-Hand Show, provided it has not already qualified and is eligible. If both Champion and Reserve Champion have already qualified for Horse of the Year Show 2026 or are ineligible then the Semi-Final will not be represented at the NPS Great British In-Hand Show.
Foal champions and geldings four years old and over are not eligible to compete or eligible to qualify for Horse of the Year Show.
In the event of a horse/pony having been awarded more than one section Championship at this show, that horse/pony will represent both/all sections and the Semi-Final qualification will not pass down to the Reserve Champion in the 2nd and any subsequent sections.
There will be no direct entry into the Supreme In-Hand Championship Semi Final, all animals must be a section champion or reserve champion (as applicable).
Judges need not be registered on any society Judge’s panel but must possess sufficient experience to judge.

SSADL LIHS 2026 Direct Qualifiers
This series is open to members and non-members. Non–members will have 10 days to join the society on receiving a qualification card.
Championship
1st & 2nd prize winners from classes 27-32 to compete. The highest placed 2026 SSADL Rider/Handler and registered Pony/Horse will claim the LIHS ticket. If the Champion has already qualified, then the qualification will be handed down the line to the next eligible competitor.
DIRECT ROUTE QUALIFIERS are open to Members and Non-members, HOWEVER, TO CLAIM THE LIHS TICKET A COMPETITOR MUST ALREADY BE A 2026 MEMBER.
The member MUST produce the membership card or a covering letter from the SSAD Show Office to be able to claim the LIHS ticket. The same rider/handler/pony/horse combination must stay the same for the Grand Final unless under special circumstances. On such an occasion the Directors may deem fit to alter said rule. No substitutions will be accepted. For a competitor to be eligible to compete at the LIHS Senior Showing Grand Final at Excel, ALL ponies/horses MUST meet the current FEI vaccination regulations.
Once a competitor has qualified for LIHS in the Ridden section, they are not allowed to qualify in the In Hand section and vice versa.
Competitors MUST produce both the above cards at the ring side before entry – NO CARDS = NO ENTRY.
No Spurs with exception of adult side-saddle riders. No Galloping/Canter Extensions, No wearing of Face/Body Jewellery, except for therapeutic earrings used by competitors with health problems. Foals are NOT permitted in SSADL Classes

SSADL RIHS 2027 Direct Qualifiers
IN HAND CHAMPIONSHIP
The 1st and 2nd prize winners from Classes 33 – 35 are eligible for the In-Hand Championship.
In the In-Hand Championship, the highest placed 2026 SSADL member will claim the RIHS 2027 Ticket. The 2026 SSADL Membership card must be produced to the Judge in the ring before presentation. No membership card - no qualification, in this situation the qualification will be handed down the line to next eligible member.
Important – for this qualification to be valid, a 2026 member must obtain 2027 membership by the 7th January 2027.
RIDDEN CHAMPIONSHIP
The 1st and 2nd prize winners from Classes 36 – 38 are eligible for the Ridden Championship.
In the Ridden Championship, the highest placed 2026 SSADL member will claim the RIHS 2027 Ticket. The 2026 SSADL Membership card must be produced to the Judge in the ring before presentation. No membership card no qualification, in this situation the qualification will be handed down the line to next eligible member.
Important – for this qualification to be valid, a 2026 member must obtain 2027 membership by the 7th January 2027.
The SSADL Grand Final will be held July 2027 at the Longines Royal International Horse Show at the All England Jumping Course, Hickstead.
The SSADL head office will notify all champions of the entry procedure, Entry is done via RIHS direct.
Important: A competitor may compete in both the In Hand and Ridden qualifiers. However, once a competitor has qualified in the In Hand section, they can still compete in Ridden section BUT are NOT allowed to ENTER in the Ridden Championship and vice versa. Important: Should a competitor win an In-Hand class and not wish to go into the In-Hand Championship, then said competitor MUST declare this to the judge and steward. Should this situation arise then the 2nd and 3rd places will go into the In Hand Championship
Once a competitor has qualified for the Grand Final, they may continue to compete in any other show qualifiers, BUT they will NOT be eligible to enter the Championship Qualifier.

BSHA LIHS Open Style & Performance Series
All Style & Performance Series classes will be marked, and judged as follows:
Exhibitors will ride together as a class, which will be considered as part of the collective marks. Exhibitors will then be asked to perform a freestyle show/display, which will be marked (max 2.5 mins), to include, (but not restricted to), in any order:
On both Reins: Walk, Trot, Canter.
Halt in the middle of the show/display for 4 secs before proceeding.
Canter Change of Rein across the Diagonal through Trot or Walk (5 strides max).
Lengthened Canter Strides.
Free Walk on a Long Rein.
Performance (not to exceed 2.5 minutes) 140 Marks
Collective marks:
Overall Impression (incl. Horsemanship, Harmony, Rider Position) 30 Marks
Manners & Way of Going for Type 30 Marks
TOTAL 200 marks
Style & Performance series classes dress rules – please refer to dress rules at end of the Rulebook, the same dress rules apply to both the ‘Type’ classes and the Style & Performance classes.
The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 in Class 50 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Open Style & Performance Young Rider Supreme Final at the LIHS in December.
The highest placed unqualified horse in the top 5 in Class 51will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Open Style & Performance Rider over 25 years Supreme Final at the LIHS in December.
Please note BSHA LIHS Qualifier-Eligible membership must be in place before entering any BSHA LIHS qualifying class.
QUALIFICATION WILL BE CONFIRMED BY EMAIL ONCE FULL BSHA MEMBERSHIP IS COMPLETED WITHIN 14 DAYS OF QUALIFICATION.
In addition, the two highest placed unqualified horses will qualify for the Associate Open Style & Performance Final at the BSHA National Championships Show in September. Associate Open Qualification Cards will be awarded in the ring.

Exhibitors enter the ring as a whole class on the right rein. (classes may be split on the go round dependent on numbers at the judge’s discretion). Exhibitors will walk, trot and canter, including change of rein and canter on the left rein before coming back to walk. No galloping on the go round. NO PULL IN. In the event of a tie, performance marks take precedence.
Exhibitors will perform an individual display; this must include a walk, trot and canter on both reins, a free walk on a long rein, canter circle, extension at canter (not a gallop) on one rein, and a halt. Canter extensions must be executed on the straight, (not at a corner). Competitors will only be marked for the first time they attempt a movement.
No stripping. Any suitable bridle, including a Micklem bridle, flash or grackle, nosebands etc. and a correctly fitted running martingale can be used. Coloured or plain brow bands can be used. Bitless bridles and Running Gags are not permitted. Classes 52 and 54 to 56 must be plaited. Running plaits are acceptable providing the forelock is plaited.
Shows may put on a Championship for the two highest exhibits. Please see rule 62 in the 2026 BSPS handbook for ages of riders for stallions.
London International Horse Show: The highest placed Horse/Pony in each class will qualify for the London International Horse Show to be held in December 2026. If already qualified, the qualification will pass down to the next highest placed Horse/Pony (down to 3rd place only). Non-members of the BSPS have seven days to complete their registration and membership to keep the qualification. If not, this will pass to the next exhibitor.

Competitors do not need to be Members to qualify – TSR membership will be required to compete in the final.
The Philip Henn Memorial Trophy (9) will be awarded to the winner of Class 64.
