LIHS BSPS Heritage M&M Lead Rein and First Ridden Working Sports Pony

In Lead Rein and First Ridden WSP classes the Judges will be looking for a pony suitable for a child to begin their future in Working Sports Pony classes. Ponies must be shown unplaited.

Marks will be awarded as follows: Manners & Style whilst performing the test (including jumping) 60 Marks, Type, Movement and Way of Going 20 Marks, Presentation and Suitability of pony for the rider 20 Marks

Criteria for Lead Rein Class
The Leader must be 16 years old or over and may only lead one pony in a class. The rein MUST go directly from the bit to the rider’s hand, with no extra aids or attachments to or on the saddle. Handles on saddles are permitted but the reins must not be attached to the handle or to the saddle. The Lead Rein must be affixed to the noseband on which it must remain while the pony is in the ring. Whilst in the ring ponies must always be led by the leader. The Leader should lead on the near side with the lead rein in the left hand.
RIDERS - Hats in accordance with BSPS Rules, Tweed Jackets, Beige or cream jodhpurs, Shirt, tie, boots and gloves. No Buttonholes
LEADERS Country attire, Gentlemen Trilby Hats or Caps, Ladies modest hats.

Method of Judging for Lead Rein Class
Ponies will enter the ring at the walk, they may be trotted altogether at the Judges’ discretion. They will be pulled into line and asked to perform an individual test around obstacles including jumping a maximum of three small upright fences not exceeding 30cms. No spread fences. Water will not be included. Ponies will not be asked to walk on artificial material e.g. plastic sheeting during the test. Riders will not be asked to dismount.

Judges will penalise refusals, knockdowns or taking the wrong course. A stride or two of canter over the fences will not be penalised. There will be NO conformation marks. Ponies must be shown unplaited and in accordance with their breed standards.

London International Horse Show: The highest placed Pony in these classes will qualify for the London International Horse Show to be held in December 2024. The series is open to members and non-members. Non-members will have 10 days to join SSADL on receiving a qualification card.

2024 Qualification System: SSADL Members will receive their own qualification card. This is to be signed in the ring at time of judging/presentation. It is the member’s responsibility to ensure the right qualifier is signed for.

The 1st and 2nd prize winners from Classes 21 – 23 are eligible for the Ridden Championship.

Important: A competitor may compete in both the In Hand and Ridden qualifiers. Important: Should a competitor win an In-Hand class and not wish to go into the In-Hand Championship, then said competitor MUST declare this to the judge and steward. Should this situation arise then the 2nd and 3rd places will go into the In Hand Championship

Once a competitor has qualified for the Grand Final, they may continue to compete in any other show qualifiers, BUT they will NOT be eligible to enter the Championship Qualifier.

Please Note: Marks will NOT be used in this qualifier. There will be no pull in after the initial go round.

No Spurs with exception to Adult Side Saddle riders, No Galloping/Canter Extensions, No Wearing of Face/Body Jewellery, with the exception to the therapeutic earring used by competitors with health problems. Foals are NOT permitted in SSADL Classes

For In-Hand Classes- Minimum age of handler = 11 years old. Ridden - First Ridden Competitors will only canter in their individual shows. Lead Rein ponies will not be stripped, for the strip section, the rider will stay mounted.

STALLIONS - Either for In Hand or Ridden classes, Competitors must be 16 years of age or over. Competitors cannot enter the ring once the command of trot has been given.

The same Rider/Handler/Pony/Horse combination must stay the same from Qualifier to Grand Final, unless under special circumstances, on such an occasion the directors may deem it fit to alter said rule.

Special Specific Breed Rosettes may be awarded for the Best Pony of each breed.

The following classes are qualifiers for the Price Family Supreme In-Hand Semi Final at the National Pony Society Great British In-Hand Show, 7th September 2024. Which is a qualifier for Horse of the Year Show, NEC, 9th – 13th October 2024. The objective of the competition is to find the supreme light horse or pony in-hand champion of the year, irrespective of breed or type (excluding heavy horses).

The Champion horse or pony from the following classes will be eligible to compete in the Price Family Supreme In-Hand Semi Final, provided it has not already won a Supreme In-Hand qualifier in 2024.

• In-Hand Mountain & Moorland Champion (Classes 24 – 28)
• Broodmare Champion (Class 29)
• Youngstock/Competition Sports Horse Champion (Classes 31 – 32)

If the Champion has already qualified for Horse of the Year Show 2024 or is ineligible, then the Reserve Champion may come forward to The NPS Great British In-Hand Show, provided it has not already qualified and is eligible. If both Champion and Reserve Champion have already qualified for Horse of the Year Show 2024 or are ineligible then the Semi-Final will not be represented at the NPS Great British In-Hand Show.

Foal champions and geldings four years old and over are not eligible to compete, or eligible to qualify for Horse of the Year Show.

In the event of a horse/pony having been awarded more than one section Championship at this show, that horse/pony will represent both/all sections and the Semi-Final qualification will not pass down to the Reserve Champion in the 2nd and any subsequent sections.

All classes are open to Yearlings, 2 year olds, 3 year olds, Stallions, broodmares and barren mares only. Broodmares must be with foal at foot or a relevant certificate of pregnancy. Mares which have not yet foaled or that have lost their foals are eligible to enter with a relevant certificate of pregnancy for the following year.

There will be no direct entry into the Price Family Supreme In-Hand Championship Semi Final, all animals must be a section champion or reserve champion (as applicable).

Judges need not be registered on any society Judge’s panel but must possess sufficient experience to judge.

The objective of the competition is to find the supreme light horse or pony in-hand champion of the year, irrespective of breed or type (excluding heavy horses).

The Champion horse or pony from the following classes will be eligible to compete in the Price Family Supreme In-
Hand Semi Final, provided it has not already won a Supreme In-Hand qualifier in 2024.

• In-Hand Mountain & Moorland Champion (Classes 24 – 28)
• Broodmare Champion (Class 29)
• Youngstock/Competition Sports Horse Champion (Classes 31 – 32)

If the Champion has already qualified for Horse of the Year Show 2024 or is ineligible, then the Reserve Champion may come forward to The NPS Great British In-Hand Show, provided it has not already qualified and is eligible. If both Champion and Reserve Champion have already qualified for Horse of the Year Show 2024 or are ineligible then the Semi-Final will not be represented at the NPS Great British In-Hand Show.

Foal champions and geldings four years old and over are not eligible to compete, or eligible to qualify for Horse of the Year Show.

In the event of a horse/pony having been awarded more than one section Championship at this show, that horse/pony will represent both/all sections and the Semi-Final qualification will not pass down to the Reserve Champion in the 2nd and any subsequent sections.

All classes are open to Yearlings, 2 year olds, 3 year olds, Stallions, broodmares and barren mares only. Broodmares must be with foal at foot or a relevant certificate of pregnancy. Mares which have not yet foaled or that have lost their foals are eligible to enter with a relevant certificate of pregnancy for the following year.

There will be no direct entry into the Price Family Supreme In-Hand Championship Semi Final, all animals must be a section champion or reserve champion (as applicable).

Judges need not be registered on any society Judge’s panel but must possess sufficient experience to judge.

The winner of class 43 will qualify for the LIHS BSHA Rising Star Racehorse to Show Horse Supreme Final at the LIHS in December 2024. If already qualified the qualification will move down to no lower than third place.

In class 44 blemishes caused through racing will be ignored. Horses do not need to be shod to compete in the RoR Open In-Hand class. Horses can be shown in a Bitless/In-Hand Bridle.
All those entering horses and/or participating in the show agree to be bound by the Retraining of Racehorses Rules and Regulations from time to time in force.

Class 44 is a qualifier for the RoR OPEN In-Hand Showing Series FINAL
The first three go forward to the final at The Jockey Club RoR National Championships at Aintree in August 2025.
