Exhibitors, handlers and their grooms must always present themselves in the
show ring neatly and smartly dressed. For in-hand classes a white coat is
recommended, with smart trousers or skirt with a shirt and tie. Appropriate

This class is a qualifying class for Horse of the Year Show, NEC, Birmingham, 7th - 11th October 2026.This class is a qualifier for the Shire Horse of the Year Championship supported by the Shire Horse Society. This class is open to pure bred fully registered shires of two years old and over that are entered and exhibited in their appropriate breed classes at Qualifying Shows. The Shire Horse Society reserve the right to share your membership data with Grandstand Media Limited in compliance with the Horse of The Year Show (HOYS) Rules and Regulations. This sharing is for the purpose of HOYS matters to include, but not limited to, qualification or disciplinary. For further details regarding the use of data for Horse of The Year Show qualifiers please refer to www.hoys.co.uk. This class will be judged at the conclusion of the Championship.

This competition is open to mares and geldings that are Heavy Horses of draught type, four years old and over. Breeds to include, but not limited to Shires, Clydesdale, Percheron, Suffolk Punch and Belgian Draught.
All Drivers and Owners must be Members of either the Shire Horse Society, The Clydesdale Horse Society, The Suffolk Horse Society, British Percheron Horse Society or The Showing Register.
Single Horse to be driven in a two wheeled show cart, Drivers to have obtained their 18th birthday by the 1st of January in the current year.
This class will run in accordance with the Horse of the Year Show Rulebook.
Additional Rules:
i. Qualification will not pass below 5th place.
ii. Horses must be entered in the name and ownership they are registered.
iii. To be driven in chrome harness and peak collars or English harness to suit the cart, brass harness and short top collars allowed.
iv. Carts must only be two wheeled and single driven.
v. This is not a turnout class; aprons, spares and lamps are not required.
